You can use this space to discuss our class novel: A Wrinkle in Time!

Olivia613 | 111 comments What do you guys think of the principal, Mr. Jenkins? Why is he so into Meg's personal business?? Stop being so nosy, DUDE!

Olivia613 | 111 comments GEEZ...

Olivia613 | 111 comments Mr. Jenkins kept pestering Meg until she lost it and then he yelled at her for losing it. WHO'S SIDE IS HE ON?!

Jack (Jackattack55519) | 126 comments Anybody know what gaily means!?!?!

-juliamcn- | 289 comments I don't get why everyone keeps bringing up Meg's father. I mean don't they get its a sore subject for Meg?

Arthur | 27 comments I think it means with merriment; merrily; joyfully; cheerfully.

Pestering is an awesome lively word. I am adding it to my lively word list!

I love the word "unceremoniously" I don't know why, it's just an awesome word.

Olivia613 | 111 comments Thanks Elise!

Same! I also like the word inexcusable.

Olivia613 | 111 comments Here is a quote from the passage that can be completely improved: "Or was it a Thing in itself?" What does the author not get about the fact that the word "thing" ISN'T A LIVELY WORD?!

message 13: by Natalia (new) - added it

Natalia (nbr202) | 73 comments Olivia, I almost think the author uses "thing" so much to describe the shadow because the author is trying to show that the shadow is unexplainable. It is a mystery to the readers so you can envision it yourself. I still agree though that she could have used a more lively word.

-juliamcn- | 289 comments Well, if a kid is talking then you can forgive them because they don't know any better. But I do agree that Madeleine uses the word "thing" too much to describe something.

Olivia613 | 111 comments It was creative of the author to make Calvin say: ""Mrs. Whatsit & Co."". (L' Engle 172)

message 16: by Maddie (new)

Maddie | 205 comments The book has been great! I am now on chapter eleven! Does anyone agree?

-juliamcn- | 289 comments There's some that are really well written and keep me on the edge of my seat, and there are some parts that make me almost put the book down and "take a break" if you know what I mean.

-juliamcn- | 289 comments Sorry, some parts.

message 19: by Maddie (new)

Maddie | 205 comments I do have to agree with you but the author define tyke put a lot of effort into this book.

message 20: by Natalia (new) - added it

Natalia (nbr202) | 73 comments A agree with you Julia, not all of the parts have to have you on the edge of you seat but they at least have to be enjoyable.

Isabel (isabelf) | 231 comments Natalia wrote: "A agree with you Julia, not all of the parts have to have you on the edge of you seat but they at least have to be enjoyable." I also agree with Julia and Natalia because waiting for things to pick up has not had me on the edge of my seat.

-juliamcn- | 289 comments Who was satisfied with the ending? I know I wasn't. Meg just magically appeared in Dennys and Sandy's vegetable garden. It didn't make any sense. Personally, I thought the ending happened too quickly. L'Engle could have spent some more time describing the conclusion better.

message 23: by Kate (new)

Kate (katesurf) | 29 comments I agree, L'Engle should have put more time into it. It seemed as though L'Engle got sick of writing the book and just summed it up to be done with. Although there are more books in the series, so maybe she wanted to end with a cliffhanger.

message 24: by Maddie (new)

Maddie | 205 comments The ending was weird because all of a sudden they were back home and I had to re-read to get it.

message 25: by Elise (new) - added it

Elise | 217 comments Yeah i agree, i don't know how they got home. There's another book, I think there's three other.

I thought somehow I had missed some piece of information on how they reappeared in Sandy and Dennys vegetable garden but apparently I was wrong. Authors do shorten the ending of a book especially when it is one in a series. They want to leave of in a place where the reader can easily catch up with the storyline.

-juliamcn- | 289 comments Thank you! That explains it all.

Yeah! Meg, Calvin, and Mr. Murray never got to defeat the shadow thing. Oh, by the way, what a surprising ending. It ended too fast. After Meg brought Charles back to himself, Meg and the two other people appeared in a vegetable garden and that was the end. I was really looking forward on seeing if another problem occurred after Charles was cured. What a bummer!

That is exactly what I thought!

Same! The book ended so quickly!

Elise | 217 comments That's true, but is the next book good?

Olivia613 | 111 comments I agree with the whole "super-quick-ending" topic. Throughout "A Wrinkle in Time", L'Engle clearly and thoughtfully explains the events in the book and the concepts. But at the end, the author just left it at "Meg, Charles Wallace, Calvin, and Mr. Murry landed in Sandy and Dennys vegetable garden. YIPEEEEEE!!"

But then again, as Rimas said, there are other books in the series, so the ending could be immediately picked-up on at the beginning of the next book.

message 33: by Maddie (new)

Maddie | 205 comments That could be right. Maybe there is someone that is reading the next book that we could ask.

That is true. Probably in the next book of the series, it will start of talking about the ending of the first book in the series. What a weird way to end a start books. Do you think so too?

Isabel (isabelf) | 231 comments At the end of my book, there was a page with all of the next books in the series. Did anyone else have that?

message 36: by Maddie (new)

Maddie | 205 comments Yes I did.
