Raevyn "Lucia" [I'm in it for the books] (raevynstar) | 36 comments It's not published (or even close to complete) yet, but I just thought I'd post parts of it:

Animalia by Graeme Base
Summary: An alphabet book highlighting alliteration.
Minimum Age: 7 (tough vocabulary)
Excerpt: “Wicked Warrior Wasps Wildly Waving Warlike Weapons”
How to use it in class: Ask students what they already know about alliteration; see if they can find the drawing of the author in each picture.

More to come soon!

Summary: August Pullman, born with facial deformities, enters 5th grade after being homeschooled for most of his life.
Minimum age: 9 (bullying, but nothing major)
Excerpt: “The part of the song we love to sing the most started to play, and I turned up the volume. We both started singing.”
How to use it in class: Have kids research genetics; teach them more about precepts; discuss empathy.
