Grishma | 2 comments Hey guys, I'm Grishma. I was born and brought up as a Christian but I got saved in May 2013. Until then, I was a Christian just for the sake of being one. I would read the bible and pray like it was a daily chore. I didn't have a personal relationship with Jesus Christ.
However, nothing was the same after a life changing event which brought me closer to Jesus. Well that's pretty much all about me :) God bless!

Please add me, I could always use more friends.

message 722: by MSCOZY (last edited Feb 25, 2016 04:45AM) (new)

MSCOZY Hello. I am Priscilla, a bookaholic, retired disabled, old lady, born in Bklyn NY, and served in the Air Force where I met my Hubby. We have no children, just one spoiled black cat who was abused and terrified by her previous owners. Her name is Stinky. We now live in Oregon and been here almost 37 years now. We have been married for 39 years.

Anthony has been the best gift the Lord gave me. I was raised/beaten into Catholicism for about 11 years of schooling. From what I was taught, God was really scary and stern and punished you when you were bad, writing your sins down in His book. I graduated high school at 16, my junior year.

I can say that I finally began reading the Bible, listening to preachers on the radio and discussing God with Anthony in the 80s. He was the reason I turned to our Lord; this happened in 1997. It was a dark time in my life and my employer was trying to fire me and there were two managers, the big guy and his underling, who made my life into a hellish nightmare. My health was very poor, I was depressed real bad, and was anorexic weighing 95 lbs. I lost all the muscle in my legs and arms and looked like a skeleton. I was refused work because of the on-the-job injuries I had sustained. For about 6 months, I was denied from working and money was tight.

I was listening to my favorite preacher, Charles Stanley from Atlanta, GA. He speaks about things that folks go through in life. That night in October I gave my heart and soul to God. Everything Dr. Stanley was saying touched me personally and I cried many tears that night. It took a number of years before my job and the daily, constant harassment led me to file for disability. This was not what I wanted, I wanted to keep working, being productive, doing my job but I had to do something as the daily incessant torture, cruelty and harassment were taking its toll on me again. In all my life, I have never known two men who were so hateful, lying, bullying, nasty, devoid of empathy or compassion like them. But God directed me in this way and He made things go swiftly and in my favor.

I have a number of medical conditions that I deal with the best I can. Some days are easier than others but I know that God has lead me here and will always be there as well as my devout husband who showed me a merciful and loving God.

For the last 15 years or so, I pick a new, different Study Bible to read. Study Bibles are such wonderful and helpful resources and I most highly recommend that if you truly wish to delve into God's word, a study Bible will assist you better than simply reading a Bible. There are footnotes, word explanations, summaries , points brought out and so much additional information to be read and dwelt upon. I pick a different Study Bible in January and calculate how many pages I need to read every day in order to finish that Bible by the end of December. It is usually 3-5 pages a day, and reading those pages help me unwind from the days chores and settle me in mind of our Lord just before tucking in for the night. My husband gave me my first Study Bible and it was Nelson's NKJV Study Bible with a small concordance and lots of footnotes, points, word study/focus and some maps. I recommend this as a person's first Study Bible. I find the KJV a bit difficult to read and comprehend. I also have a new journal book so I can write down any verses that speak to me. On index cards, I write verses that I wish to memorize. I also utilize a Bible dictionary, a Who's who in the Bible, a concordance as well as a parallel Bible all to further enlighten, describe and clarify points.

It is only in the last year or two that I began reading Christian fiction. The Mitford book series caught my eye and I found myself delightfully pleased while reading them. Now I am going to try Baumbich's Dearest Dorothy series; the first book was good reading!

Sorry for being long-winded but being mostly house-bound leaves one short on conversing. Hope to check this site out later and see what is going on. Nice talking at you.

message 741: by Samantha (last edited Mar 30, 2016 10:43PM) (new)

Samantha (missymaysreadingnook) Hi everyone :) My name's Samantha. I'm 26 years old in SoCal (born and raised in Iowa) and just trying to stay connected. My life is just starting to get back into an up-swing after months of being in the valley, or as I phrased it often "The Pit".

Church has always been a part of my life, but it's never been consistent. As a kid, I went because it made my mom happy to go. Somewhere in high school I actually enjoyed it because of a youth group the new pastor at the time created. Then I saw the ugly side of my church. The church members, the ones who basically raised me from a baby, forgot that they were to worship God, not the building itself. They became focused on controlling what the pastor preached about and the maintenance of the church.

The worst part was when my great-aunt passed away. Things were already difficult. I started going to a sister church in town and my mom stopped going to church altogether because of what was going on. When my great-aunt passed away, we attended the funeral at the church. While people were walking by sharing their condolences, one of the women who watched me grow up whispered in my ear "It would've been better if you left that way [nodding her head at my great-aunt's casket] than they way you did." Let's just say I saw that God was no longer in this home. I was thankful that I had another place to go to. The sister church was small, but close knit and I felt like I was getting a true taste of God again, like I did in the youth group.

Then I moved out to California and that was interesting in and of itself. I found non-denominal churches and fell in love. I currently go to First Christian Church and love every minute of it. I've learned more about God than I ever have before, have been active with going to a women's Bible study group for the past year and recently started volunteering helping with the Jr. High group there.

Sorry about so much background :P I'm looking forward to talking more and seeing what this group is about :)

message 742: by Karis (new)

Karis Welcome Samantha:) Thanks for sharing your story; I love to hear how God is working in fellow Christians' lives. I'm so glad that even though you had a very bad experience with church you didn't get so turned off that you wanted to do nothing with God at all.
Glad to have you here :)

I'm barely starting to read Christian material and hoping to do some more. I have a ton of Max Lucado in my TBR list. The only book I've finished so far is Audacious and I've been working on Chasing God.

I'll definitely be sharing my testimony soon :) It takes some time to think up because it's been a complicated walk, as it is for probably everyone.

Tyrone Wilson | 31 comments Hello my Christian brothers and sisters! My name is Tyrone. I'm new here and look forward to sharing experiences and finding new books to read. I'm a bit closer to retirement, so I expect to have a bit more time on my hands to read.

I teach Sunday school at my church (for some time now), and am passionate about teaching the truths of the Bible. Aside from the pure joy and reward I receive for this service, the Lord has blessed me to write a book (God's Redemptive Plan: For Young Adults and High School Students) based on the many questions asked about the last days. Please take a look at the description, and then let the Lord lead.

I hope to gain many online friends from among this group.

God Bless.

Tyrone

Jeff Andras | 4 comments Good afternoon everyone. My name is Jeff Andras and I am just putting the finishing touches on my first book. Based on the group name I thought it/I would fit in. I do a blog that I try to update once a week. My heart is filled with a desire to lead God's people back into the unity for which we were called to be. The book is shown as available but the cover image has a Type-O that will be corrected within the next few days. As soon as that is done and the website is up and running I will be doing various promotional discounts. Thanks for letting me join, and please check out my author page where you can find links to the blog, my website, and information about me and the book. God bless.

Liam Hello everyone :)

I'm a sixteen year old guy (yes, I'm a guy. Luna is short for 'Luna Lovegood,' my favourite Harry Potter character) from B.C., Canada. I see a few people have commented that they're writing a book, so I'll do the same. I've written one book that I started about a year and a half ago, and about half of another that I think is a LOT better :)

Anyway, I like tennis, soccer, Harry Potter, The Lord of the RIngs pizza, Coldplay, Thirty Seconds to Mars, Christian biographies, and fellowshipping! I also write fanfiction. A link to my fanfiction.net account on my profile :)

Nice to be here, and meet everyone :) God bless you all :)
