Help finding a book from the 80's

Hello,

I have been trying forever to find a book that scared the crap out of me in the 1980's. It was one of the hundreds of "embossed" Leisure/Signet horror paperbacks(may be another publisher). All I remember is a small Southern Town, Kudzu(prominent role), an evil child, and the cover, if I remember correctly had the child in or rising out of a swamp with tall grass etc. I know this could be 100 different books, but it has stuck with me for 25 years, and I'd love to see it, and reread. Who knows if it would even hold up well..

It sounds like Where the Summer Ends, but I believe that's a short story or novella. The book I'm asking about is definitely a novel. And I just checked the link...no luck..
