"I Hate Buffy!"

yeah same here some people say it looks weird and stuff but no one has ever hated it

My sister and I (we're the obsessed ones of our family) have introduced it to a couple of friends. They all love it, which is great!!! =)
I know someone who hates Buffy. It's my friend, Sarah. She hates all fantasy books, movies, etc. She hates Twilight the most, but when we told her about Buffy, she said she wouldn't watch it because it sounded "unrealistic". And she says vampires and demons aren't real :(

i have been able to get 4 people to start watching Buffy!!!!!

I introduced a friend to Buffy via Firefly. She was into sci-fi, but had never seen Firefly, so I loaned her my DVDs, and she watched it in about three days. Then I suggested if she liked that, she might like Buffy and Angel. She'd seen an episode here and there but said she didn't get the show. I talked her into trying Buffy season 1, and by about the fourth episode, she was into it. She got so into it, she watched Buffy and Angel at the same time, alternating episodes so the crossovers in the first couple Angel seasons corresponded to the correct Buffy episode. And now she's way ahead of me on the Buffy comics. I think she's read most of them, and I've only read the first one.
Sometimes it only takes a little convincing to get people to try it, and they really like it!

I found Buffy and Angel through Firefly as well. My dad showed me Firefly and after I watched it all in two days and loved it to the point of obsession, he suggested Buffy. He hadn't seen it himself but by that point we were both huge Joss Whedon fans. At first I was skeptical because of the dated special effects and the whole teenage/high school setting. I thought: High School Musical with vampires. But after the first episode I was hooked and ended up liking it even more than Firefly. I finished all 9 seasons in 2 months. Then of course I had to watch Angel which I loved as well. And after that I felt like I still couldn't let the story go so I've been reading all the Buffyverse comics I can get my hands on. I've read most of Angel: After the Fall, as well as all of the Spike comics and I've just started the Buffy ones. I am absolutely obsessed. I even talked my dad into watching Buffy as well and he really loves it too. And I've managed to convince some of my friends to try it, and a few already had, but most just write it off as an old, goofy vampire show.
@Miranda, which of the new Buffyverse books/graphic novels do you recommend? Are they all equally good? Or are some better than others?

If so, what was your response? Did you you just walk away? Did you try to explain why you like Buffy? Did you ask why the person hates Buffy? Did you tell the person to watch a certain season, or episode, to gain an appreciation for our favorite vampire slayer?
In what ways have you overcome the comment, "I hate Buffy!"
