I like the whole thing so far. But, what happened to week 3 discussion thread?

Oh, that's perfectly fine, Judy. No pressure, just curious as to whether I was losing my mind or not! lol! I am really enjoying reading this book and I'm glad we are doing it the way we are because it is so big I might have lost courage if I was tackling it alone!
I'm enjoying seeing another view of life in India while Lata has been taken away to her brother Arun's home. He is a bit much as he apparently craves all things British. And back home, Maan---what a life he is leading.
This really is a wonderful portrait of such a diverse population. I'm so glad I'm reading it. India is really an amazing country and the book is set at such a difficult time not long after independence and partition.
Well this one will keep us occupied for a while!
Just got my replacement copy from the library - now to play catch up!
I'm getting close to catching up! Reactions from reading this section: The intriguing Saeeda Bai earns another star in my book; the friendship between Nawab Sahib and Mahesh Kapoor shines through - it epitomizes hope and encouragement despite the Hindu/Muslim divide; and it was rather nostalgic hearing about Meenakshi shopping at New Market, in Middleton Row and Free School Street and at Shaw Brothers. Looking forward to the dinner!
As a re-reader this was a long one. And not only because my life got insane. I had forgotten lot's of the Nawab Sahib and Mahesh Kapoor part. I agree that it is fun to see another side of the India of the time.
I remember finding Saeeda Bai annoying. Not so this time around. I am not sure if I have not gotten to the part where I decided she was or if it's the "almost 20 years" that changed my view of things.

I'm very slowly getting back to this book and obviously won't finish with the schedule but it is so good and I will finish!
Yes, Ma has finally "left the building". Maan has discovered just what his month in the country is going to be like. Slowly picking up pages though not a new milestone yet.Actually I just realized I am in the next section!!
That's actually good to know Judy. He seems such a shallow, lost soul.

Just getting back into this for the first time since before the holiday season in December.I understand what is happening but I am finding it hard to get lost in the story. Probably because of the long break between sections. I am hoping the next section sucks me back in.
I'm finding that I do get sucked back in ---except when the talk is about the law and the setting is the legislative/court discussions. I know I need that information but some of it is difficult to take in.I have now reached part 14.
