Still battling monsters in this FF book for now....”

It’s a private group called The Dark Room.

I think I’d be proud of my willpower but disappointed about not having a book.

message 1653: by Maximum (new)

Maximum Beans (maximumbeans) | 521 comments Audrey, that sounds interesting, thanks for thinking of me! I’ll definitely get back to you after I’ve read the book, I have high hopes for it because the author has been in my “why haven’t I read any of these yet” pile for quite some time along with Rothfuss and Abercrombie.

Mike, you are a stronger man than I. On Friday I walked out of Waterstones with the “Nearly definitive” Hitchhiker’s collection, spending way more than I should have!

Is it weird that the one I got excited about there is the scone book? I'm always after a good scone recipe :-D

Me too! Except I got interested because it said "scones" and I've been eating healthy and working out for the past couple of months and every time I see a cake I go weak in the knees. :)

It is never weird to get excited about scones - there are 50, I repeat 50 delicious sounding scones both sweet and savoury contained within! I don't know where to start!

Haha I take it it would then be very cruel to describe the recipes and photograph the evidence? XD

Maximum Beans (maximumbeans) | 521 comments Freya, please do share recipes. I can have scones at the weekends, as I've set them aside for being allowed beer and such :)

message 1660: by Maximum (new)

Maximum Beans (maximumbeans) | 521 comments Ok, so I got some cashback through a website and apparently I can get 13% extra on top if I take it as gift card. And I can go for a National Book Token card. I think I may be in trouble here guys because that'd give me £75 of "free" book credit to go nuts with.

Do it!!!

You can either splash out in one go, or sprinkle the book happiness over the course of a few months.

Margo Ooh, that's a hard one! Make a big dent in your current wish-list or wait or wait to see what's around the corner? I love that kind of quandary 😁

I’ve never made scones at home; I need to try. I have a recipe for Samoan pancakes I still need to try. They are very similar to scones.

message 1664: by rin (new)

rin (rintroversion) | 162 comments I impulse bought The Black Tides of Heaven and The Red Threads of Fortune as I saw the cover illustration for The Descent of Monsters. They were also under £3 on Kindle UK...

I've never heard of Samoan pancakes before!

Scones are beautifully easy to make, I'll be making some Welsh cheddar and herb ones at some point this week :)

Scott, the Welsh cheddar and herb scones are fab. Some of my friends have the same recipe book, and just as I was leaving them today they were about to make the lemon and blueberry ones!

Drat, you live in the UK. That's definitely too far for me to go to visit this little gem of a bookshop you've discovered. Though by the looks of it, you may have cleaned it out already. Awesome haul! :-)

They seem to get a lot of cool books in all the time. I've cleared them out a couple of times now and the books grow back like weeds! Great thing is, it's a charity shop for an animal shelter, so I get to feel all the warm fuzzies for helping small furry creatures. Last time I was there the shopkeep also made a pot of tea and gave me Ben & Jerry's ice cream, so I plan to move in I think.

It's in Southport, about 45min train journey from Liverpool.

I wasn't meant to be buying books because, y'know sometimes a person likes to be able to afford to eat now and again, but I just somehow ended up getting La Belle Sauvage, Lud-in-the-Mist and The Girl in The Tower...

Considering that I also bought steampunk jewelry, nerdy car decals, a Mistborn T-shirt and lanyard, and some artwork, it was still a spending spree.

My son bought an Anduril sword, a Tardis bathrobe, some Lego figures, and a bunch of dice.

In September I got The Iron Jackal and The Ace of Skulls, though that one hasn’t arrived yet.

For my birthday I got The Empty Grave and with a gift card I got Oathbringer.

Then I went to a Brandon Mull book signing and got Death Weavers and Wrath of the Dragon King

Yesterday I went to the library’s annual Local Authors and You event and got a haul of books from local authors. It was great fun, and I’m excited about all the books.
Shadow of a Life
Kyle by Fire
Billy Blacksmith: The Demonslayer
Step Right Up (Sirkus av Magi)
SunRider, Book 1
