I need to return the favor and read one of the ones you told me to! Going to go do that actually...

I would say to start with Wool, after I read it I had to read the entire trilogy back to back. It had short chapters that always leave you wanting to read just a little more and becomes very difficult to put down. :) I hope you enjoy it as much as I did

I loved Wool. Such a great series. Listen to Lancer ;-)

Paul have you at all seen the graphic novel they made of Wool? I don't really read them and don't own it but skimmed through it in the book store once, it was interesting to compare my vision of the silos to the illustrators.

I'm definitely going to read Wool but I'm waiting until the Summer Reading Program starts at my library next week. You get free things after reading so many books. (As in you get more books and gift cards to local businesses, including my favorite coffee shop.) I have an entire list made out for optimum reading, everything that is less than 350 pages is to be read. Since Wool is short it is at the top of the list!

You will burn through wool in no time I think I read the whole trilogy in less than a week!

I got the Omnibus of the graphic novel a few weeks ago . Same reason , curiosity about how different I imagined the characters

message 560: by Simply Sam (new)

Simply Sam (shalliread) Agree with the Wool assessment! Read it a couple of years ago and really, really enjoyed it! I keep trying to get others to read it as well :)

message 561: by Darci (new)

Darci Balogh (darcibaloghalishouse) The last book I bought was written by a woman I met recently in a writing group, Mathiya Adams. She was very funny, intelligent and kind and writes what are called "cozy" mysteries. I'm not sure what a cozy mystery is, but I purchased the first in her series called The Avid Angler. Haven't had a chance to read it yet!

Wool is definitely one I want to read as well! So many books...so little time!!

Lisa (lml369_07) | 58 comments Last night I bought Jurassic Park. It's one of those books I have always wanted to read but never got around to it. I'm reading it as my 'book that was turned into a movie' selection for the 2015 reading challenge

Well I bought Sandersons The Rithmatist today, Philip K Dicks The Worlds Jones Made , Edgar Rice Burroughs John Carter of Mars and a book called The First Murder , a novel written by a few authors .

The second book isn't so good, basically Crichton tried to cash in on the success of the film by reviving a previously dead character... not sure how that worked ;)

message 569: by Lisa (new)

Lisa (lml369_07) | 58 comments haha well I might just skip it then thanks for the heads up!

Lisa (lml369_07) | 58 comments So last night I purchased The Martian and Friday I received The Ultimate Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy and I am so excited to read both! I am trying to get through Jurassic Park and then The Inheritance Trilogy by July 13th because I would like to take The Martian with me on vacation for my beach read. And then hopefully finish that while I'm gone and dive into The Ultimate Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy when I get home. I've been wanting to read that book for so long! I'm sure I'll get more books between now and then but those are my plans for now!

message 571: by Tom (new)

Tom | 216 comments If your planning on doing anything on your holiday probably not a good idea to take the Martian, that thing will take over your life

Lisa (lml369_07) | 58 comments Tom wrote: "If your planning on doing anything on your holiday probably not a good idea to take the Martian, that thing will take over your life"

Haha I would normally agree with you but we take this vacation every year and the point of the trip is to sit on the beach doing as little as possible for a week and my mother-in-law, who is also a huge bookworm, will sit with me and we just read away. Not to mention its a 12 hour drive both ways so I have a lot of time to sit in the passenger seat and read and read. If I was going anywhere else I wouldn't take it because I wouldn't want my nose stuck in a book the whole time.

Lisa, what do you think of Jurassic Park so far? :) I loved the book, but having recently re-watched all the films and Jurassic World makes me want to re-read it!

message 574: by Lisa (new)

Lisa (lml369_07) | 58 comments I am loving it Rinn! It's definitely living up to my expectations so far! Very suspenseful and well written. I am only on page 103 so far but it's been awesome!

Veronica (readingonthefly) | 803 comments I bought Jonathan Strange & Mr Norrell the other day. It had been my intention to read it prior to the tv showing premiering on BBC America but that didn't work out so well.

Still so worth the read

message 578: by Veronica (last edited Jun 15, 2015 01:14PM) (new)

Veronica (readingonthefly) | 803 comments I'm still planning on reading it. I started the other night but have barely put a dent in it (didn't realize how long it is!). Now my problem is whether I should hold off on watching the show until after I've finished with the book or watch the show first and then read the book? Decisions, decisions...

message 579: by Simply Sam (new)

Simply Sam (shalliread) So I haven't technically bought this book but I just borrowed The Lord of the Rings from Kindle. I have actually never read it and my daughter wants us to read it together. How can I say no to that? Plus, I really feel like this is something I should have done already.

Oh, and The Martian was one of my favorite books last year. Really good pick for a vacation read!

Very recently bought the Han Solo and Thrawn Trilogies, figure I will knock then off in between books this year to get me (even more so) into the mood for Star Wars: The Force Awakens later this year.

*Gasp I was just looking at this book yesterday and really wanted to pick it up but I didn't have the money. It's definitely on my list to buy soon though! I only recently heard about it all and I would like to watch the show but of course, gotta read the book first. Let us know how you like it!

I read it twice and it was worth it both times. It starts slowly but its so wonderfully written.

message 583: by Veronica (new)

Veronica (readingonthefly) | 803 comments I'm only four chapters in but, yes, I am loving the writing style...the use of language...all of it! I have to read it with a British accent in my head though, lol.

message 584: by Lisa (new)

Lisa (lml369_07) | 58 comments I'm glad to hear a good review on it Paul and I do the same thing when I read stuff like that Veronica haha!

Its just one of those books Lisa. It works on several levels, the best of Fantasy and a good 18th century English Story.

message 586: by Lisa (new)

Lisa (lml369_07) | 58 comments Which of course are two of my favorite topics and settings for stories! I'm getting really pumped up over this read now!

message 587: by Andrew (new)

Andrew I wrote a rather lengthy review on how it slowly charmed me and then completely made me fall in love with it lol

Negative reviews I have seen are BIZARRE. "This book is long." Or, "This book's writing style is boring, Victorian-esque!"

Uh, that's cool, you don't have to like those aspects of it...but you could have avoided reading it knowing you dislike those things. It was not a hidden surprise LOL It is clearly long, and a single page glance will tell you the style.

Anyway, is the show any good? I missed the first episode and it doesn't seem to be on Hulu! Grrr.

message 588: by Paul, A wanderer in unknown realms (new)

Paul | 3571 comments Mod
Its pretty much like the reviews by people tearing fantasy books apart because they have magic or dragons.

message 589: by Veronica (new)

Veronica (readingonthefly) | 803 comments Or the people who complain that the characters in historical fiction aren't displaying modern ideas of political correctness. *facepalm*

Andrew wrote: "Anyway, is the show any good? I missed the first episode and it doesn't seem to be on Hulu! Grrr. "

It should be available through OnDemand. At least I hope so since I forgot to set the dvr.

Andrew Veronica wrote: "It should be available through OnDemand. At least I hope so since I forgot to set the dvr."

Hopefully! I just checked and I do have BBC America OnDemand, and there is a selection of "Jonathan Strange". But so far it is just 4 different 1-2 min previews and behind the scenes stuff. Other shows, like Orphan Black have full episodes.

It's been a few days, I wonder what they are waiting for :/ Maybe it uploads after a week, and I will always be a week behind.

message 591: by Veronica (new)

Veronica (readingonthefly) | 803 comments Andrew wrote: "Hopefully! I just checked and I do have BBC America OnDemand, and there is a selectio..."

I checked where I live (Texas) and the episode was available OnDemand so if it's still not where you are then I imagine it will be soon.

message 592: by Andrew (new)

Andrew Yeah, thanks :) I just checked again this morning and it was there. Phew!
