Why does everyone hate Jason?

What's wrong with Jason? What is his weakness?
Nothing.
That kind of thing really grates on people. It also makes him WAY less relatable than the other characters. People like a character who is relatable, that's why empathy is always more powerful than sympathy.
Because they think he’s trying to replace Percy, which he’s not. People also have a problem when characters seem “perfect”. I for the record, like Jason. Even more than Percy. And since Percy’s the fan favorite everyone who just read that is gasping in shock at the audacity that someone could prefer Jason over Percy.

I agree. I liked Jason. More than Percy.
I think the main reason for that is because he agreed to give Percy leadership of Camp Jupiter in the third book. Also it was fun seeing that Percy wasn't the one and only hero. Besides the fact that Percy was the leader in the first series, I don't think he carried much of that leadership in HoO.
I think that others hate Jason for that reason. The only downside I find about Jason is his friendship with Piper and his breaking up with Reyna. I would have loved Jason even more if her ended up with Reyna instead of Piper.
I really like Jason, though I tend to have a soft spot for characters that are seen as “too perfect” or called “Mary sues”. People really need to stop throwing that phrase around all the time, whenever a character’s flaws aren’t as obvious as others they immediately start calling them that, when it’s actually hardly ever true. It was originally a fanfiction term that somehow migrated to real literature and it annoys me. I don’t really like Percy or Jason better, it’s like comparing apples to oranges. Besides I’ve always preferred Luke as a character.

Wow bravo 👌👌

Wow. That's coldcold blooded. You people JASON IS A PERFECTLY GOOD ARGO THE 2 CREW MEMBER!!!!!!!!!!

Second of all, hes a major character in HoO and i guess some people still want Percy to be leading? Honestly, jason and percy are two different characters so i find it unreasonable but im sure theres bound to be people who are attached to Percy and dont like him being "replaced" by Jason

I like Jason. Not as much as Percy ofc, but he’s a good character overall. I suppose Jason could be considered the literary foil for Percy. Their personalities contrast one another and highlight certain traits in both of them. I think people tend to prefer Percy because he’s funnier, more charismatic and was the OG hero/protagonist. Jason can come off as kind of bland in some of the character POVs but is much more interesting when things are narrated from his viewpoint. I remember liking him better in The Lost Hero as opposed to Mark Of Athena for similar reasons.

1."Percy has done more than Jason".Correction, we have SEEN Percy do more.
2."Jason is perfect". Actually, he is not, he messes up all the time.
3. "Jason gets knocked out to much and he is useless". Wait, I thought he was perfect? How can he be perfect and useless?
4. "He stole leadership from Percy". Last I checked Jason was a leader BEFORE Percy, also, last I checked, Percy was not the only leader.
5. "Percy is funnier". So? A book needs a serious character. Nico doesn't joke a lot, yet we don't hate him.
6. "He is not relate able". Just because you can't relate to him does not mean he is not relate able.
7. "Percy is stronger". Well, Percy is stronger than every demigod except maybe Nico, a character's worth is not balanced on their strength.
I hope all you Jason haters rethink your opinions about Jason. (I personally like him better than Percy)
PS. People hate Piper because she thought he looked unimpressive. For one, she thought it, she never said it out loud. Two, it was her first impression, before she saw him act, and first impressions are sometimes wrong. Three, she is allowed to have her own opinion. Four, you hate a character because of one line?
I’m not hating on Jason, I’m simply speculating why others might. I personally really like Jason. He’s my second favorite male character after Percy. Even before Leo the fan favorite. Good job with defending Jason and Piper btw! We need more people like you, willing to stand up for characters who get unnecessary hate.

I agree. Jason is too perfect and egotistical to love. He literally says something along the lines of: "Well, I should go to Hercules because he's my half-brother." That's pretty darn egotistical. Also, his character is blank, he's just so boring. He's not well known for his character like Percy- he's known for his looks (but Percy's hotter!) I just hate Jason, and nothing can change my mind.

Yeah, totally forgot about that till right now! He's gone so there that.
Still, kind of sad...
Because with the exception of Leo and Reyna, none of the newly introduced characters are well liked by fans. Most people absolutely hate Piper and Jason, for really dumb reasons I might add. Hazel and Frank are treated more with indifference and boredom but still not exactly liked and definitely not loved. I don't really get it either because I do like those characters, particularly Jason and Piper. Though more separately than together as a couple if that makes sense.

I think Percy is awesome, but that doesn't mean that either Jason or Percy has to be the best. You said that Percy saved Juno and that's wrong because Piper, Leo, and Jason saved Juno. They did it in the Lost Hero. Jason doesn't compare himself to Percy or anyone for that matter. Why should you? Also, just because Piper is not attracted to Percy that gives you no truly valid reason to hate her. It might be shocking, but she doesn't hate him either. Try to understand that its NOT ok to hate Piper and Jason for these reasons. If Percy doesn't hate them in the books, then why should you since the reasons you give only give him right to hate them. Jason and Percy are friends. Jason doesn't try to replace Percy.
***SPOILER ALERT***
I hope people like you are happy because Jason died in TBM. Jason is NOT going to be Percy ya know. The whole demigod world isn't just about Percy. If you wanted it to be about Percy only, then you should have stopped when you finished PJATO. Jason doesn't steal Percy's limelight. He is just a demigod trying to survive in a world full of chaos, but apparently some people have problems with that. Why can't you just leave Jason alone. He died in TBM. He died a hero because that is what he always was. People just couldn't realize it. Hope you sick people are happy now that the demigod world has witnessed the fall of a great demigod, Jason Grace.
STOP COMPARING JASON TO PERCY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

You know I’m really baffled by the hate for characters because they are deemed ‘perfect’. Like why is perfect a bad thing? Isn’t that kinda what we as humans are aiming for in life? To overcome our flaws and weaknesses and become the best person we can be? As close to perfect as we can get. Yet when a character does that everyone hates them. It’s really weird and unfair to do to someone fictional or otherwise. And how can he be egotistical AND perfect? Those two arguments contradict each other.

He's egotistical in how he speaks. His actions though, are perfect. I get what you're saying. The thing is, Jason HAS NO tragic past, or anything else. he was BORN perfect, a son of Jupiter, then Praetor. It wasn't even his fault. Yet, I don't like perfect people. It wasn't like he ever tried to perfect himself, he just always WAS perfect.
No tragic past? He was offered as a sacrifice to Juno by his crazy mother and separated from his sister then had his life and memories ripped away from him for a time just like Percy. Why do characters even have to have a tragic past? It’s not fair or right to compare sufferings and go well this character didn’t have a hard of life as these other characters therefore they suck. Jason was constantly messing up and getting injured in Mark of Athena, a perfect person wouldn’t have.
You can’t stay perfect and mess up! It’s literally not possible! You’re either perfect or you make mistakes you can’t have both.

Shouldn't you admire him for that instead of hating him for it? *shakes head*

Whoa!!! You hate someone because they aren't attracted to someone else. No offense, but that is just weird.

Really, I think I don't like Jason because of the way he acts toward Percy. Percy is way more accepting of Jason than Jason is of Percy, even though I think they are both a little wary of each other at first. To me, it always seemed like Jason was determined to keep his title as the most powerful of the demigods, and also remain in charge. Percy is obviously the more powerful of the two, or at least, we see Percy use his powers more comfortably, more often, and usually to greater effect. I even think Jason realizes this but is to arrogant to admit it. Jason never seems willing to let Percy become more important in quest (even though Percy was probably better suited to that role), except, of course, when it comes to the prophecy. I've never liked how readily Jason throws Percy to the fate of the prophecy (to storm or fire...) when he discusses the meaning of the prophecy with Piper. After they realize the prophecy means that either storm or fire will likely die, Jason all to easily shrugs that role/responsibility off to Percy, telling piper that Percy can create hurricanes, and may very well be the storm. Okay, Jason may not actually know Percy that well but, considering he is supposed to be the leader here, he shouldn't just be willing to let a member of his team die. A leader doesn't (shouldn't) just say, "wait I might not be the one who dies? it could be someone else instead?" No. Just no. To be fair, Jason doesn't actually want Percy to die, but he does take his possible death as a solution, rather than something he should try to put a stop to.
Even setting all that aside, Jason just never seems to respect Percy like at all, even though Percy is obviously an extremely capable and useful person to have on this most important of quests. He never recognizes that it would make sense to step aside and let Percy handle a situation. I am not saying he should have just let Percy be the leader of the whole quest, that wouldn't really make sense, I am just talking about individual situations, like when only a few of them need to go ashore or do specific tasks. Jason never wants to take advantage of Percy's abilities or let him do anything, which, again, makes him not that great of a leader as he is unwilling, out of self interest, to organize and allow his team to handle a situation in the best way.
And just to address some other comments:
1. "Jason is serious"- who cares? at least it was something that set him apart from the other characters. that was one of the only good things about him.
2. "Jason hasn't done as much as Percy"- strictly speaking, I don't know if that is really true. I mean, he is praetor after all, and he did fight on Mount Othrys.
3. "Most people are biased about the whole thing because they spent five extra books getting to love Percy"- yeah that is probably true to an extent, but that isn't the only reason people don't like Jason, so maybe stop reducing each others arguments to this.
4. "Percy is just cooler than Jason, and a more interesting character"- yes. Percy is the more interesting character, he is much more unique and much more relatable to the audience as he has some experience with a more normal life that Jason never had. Opinion? yes, but all the same. Rick Riordan writes Percy as a more dynamic character than Jason.
5. "Piper's comment about Percy not being impressive"- seriously people? this is not an argument. The fact that one character just likes blond guys is not an argument, stop saying that it is.
6. "Jason doesn't think he is better than anyone/isn't arrogant and just wants to find his place"- read the book more carefully cuz only half of that statement is true. Jason does want to find his place, but he wants to find that his place is the leader's position.
7. "Jason doesn't look up to Percy enough"- guys this is dumb, think about how and when they meet. Jason hasn't really seen Percy do anything that impressive, he's just has heard about it. And it is a pretty bold statement to say that he SHOULD look up to Percy. Percy is hardly perfect, and Jason isn't ready to just take Percy at others' words, he want to decide for himself and that is actually a good thing. They other side of that, though, which I have already mentioned, is that Jason possibly pushes it a little to far and discredits Percy BECAUSE the other seem to look up to him.
8. "Percy is more powerful than Jason" yes, Percy is obviously more powerful, but so what, that doesn't really seem to define either character.
Anyway, yes, I hate Jason for all the reason I just listed. And I do think Percy is a way better character.
But seriously people, getting hung up much? I'm pretty sure most people say that their favorite character is Leo anyway. Sooo....

WRONG!! As i stated before, Jason doesn't consider himself better than anyone, he isn't trying to replace anyone, he is just tr..."
Gee, just trying to make he/she point.
Okay, I'll admit it. At first I was one of the haters. (Now I'm a FORMER hater.) I can tell you the reason I hated him. In The Lost Hero, I was expecting Percy. But instead Percy has to step back while Jason takes the stage. It caught me off guard, and I hated the change. WHERE WAS MY PERCY JACKSON??!!!! I directed all that anger at Jason, but now I believe Jason Grace is a lot like Percy Jackson-with different experiences.

What?! I LOVE Hazel and Frank. My least favorite is Leo. You may attack now, Leo fans.

I like Percy, but I love Jason.
