Is shown though out the first and second book, even a bit in the third. I honestly thought that oranges symbolized something different for the both of them. For Gale it's more of a trading mechanism,but for Katniss it means more because the only time she had ever tasted orange juice was when her father brought it home.
Or maybe Collins wanted her readers(and now fans) to think something totally different. Maybe she wanted us to figure out what it means- if there's even a meaning behind them. (The oranges)
