message 1252: by Laura (new)

Laura hi--i'm lurk. i am so excited to find this group because i love fun challenges that push me outside my lazy lazy zone. i split my time between mississippi (winter) and wisconsin (summer). wherever i am, i sleep with 5 cats. on weekends i add my husband to the mix, but he works in boston during the week. theoretically, that should mean more reading time...but squirrel! last year i faltered a bit with reading. not gonna happen this year. nope. can't wait to start a challenge or two.

message 1253: by Laura (new)

Laura I'm Laura - I read The Book of Strange New Things on my own and found this group while looking for a place to talk about it. I am somewhat addicted to Goodreads.:) I live in Michigan, have two teen-age children, a husband and a full-time job. The older I get, the more I realize the importance of taking time to just sit quietly, disconnect from technology, and read a book - a real book, no e-reader for me (yet). I have been a reader since I was a child - I thank my parents for that gift.

Kara (karaayako) | 3984 comments Welcome, all! It's great to see so many new members. If you all have any questions at all, please don't hesitate to reach out!

message 1265: by Melissa (new)

Melissa I am Melissa, I have a 10 year old and I love to read. Im trying to open my mind and read things I would never usually choose.

message 1266: by Kara (new)

Kara (karaayako) | 3984 comments Melissa, that's one thing I love about this group. We have such a divers membership list, so I'm being exposed to all kinds of books I never would've picked up on my own. For example, last year we read The Rosie Project. Never in a million years would I have picked this up (especially with such a lovey cover), and I completely adored it and have recommended it to so many people since.

message 1267: by Jay (new)

Jay S | 1 comments Hi all, I'm Jay. I am kind of new to Goodreads although I joined quite a while back. Last year was not a great year for me in reading books but looking to dive into books as much as I can this year. My goal is to read ~50 books this year.

Laurie Leona wrote: "Hello all. My nme is Leona and I live in Minnesota. I was raised in West Texas (Monahans). I love to read and I do book reviews also."

Wow, Minnesota has to be as different from Monahans as you can get. I'm from Lubbock and I can't imagine living where there are so many trees although I would like to try ( but somewhere much warmer).

message 1273: by Natalie (new)

Natalie Beatty | 4 comments Hi, I am Natalie, I work fulltime and run my own children's clothing business. I absolutely love reading!! Will give anything a try, but I really love French books and anything to do with Historical Fiction.

mussolet (sovotchka) | 615 comments Welcome new members! I hope you have fun sharing books with us. Remember, if you have any questions, feel free to ask!

Natalie, do you have time for reading? You sound so busy, and Historical Fiction is usually a lot longer than other genres!

message 1275: by Kimberly (new)

Kimberly Hall Hey I am 28 and have 3 daughters ages 7, 3 and 2 (the fun ages). I love a good chick-lit but will pretty much read anything that sounds interesting. I am trying to get back into reading on a regular basis.

message 1279: by Päivi (new)

I am Päivi from Finland, a wannabe bookworm who would love to read more than what is actually timewise possibIe. I have a lot of unread books in my shelves, and once again my goal is to finnish quite a many of them. Maybe some challenges would help me and get me on the right track.

message 1285: by Nwanneka (new)

Nwanneka Chukwujiorah | 45 comments Hello Everyone, my name is Nwanneka. I stumbled upon Goodreads based on a conversation some of my friends on FB were having. I had no idea such a community existed! I was an avid reader and then life pulled me away from joy and I am determined to get back to my passion. So here I am!! Happy Reading everyone!

message 1286: by Anna (new)

Anna (anna_lofstad) Hi, I'm Anna. I'm 16 (almost 17) and from Norway. I mostly read everything, but I'm not that fond of horror. I might try more one day... I was looking to join a group, and then I stumbled upon this one. It seems really nice, and I'll try to join some challenges :)

message 1287: by Bella (new)

Bella | 193 comments Hi,
I'm a stay at home mom of three. I homeschool two and the oldest- who's sixteen- just started college. I, like millions of people, am an unpublished writer. I just finished writing my first book last November. However, I swear that I'm here as a reader. (If this is too spammy, please spank my hand and tell me to delete it.)

I read all genres, except erotica. My GR challenge goal for 2015 is 400 books. So far, I've read 45. Due to life being crazy and taking time to write, I only read 339 books last year. I think that's the least I've read in my whole life, unless you count the years I couldn't read.

I'm looking forward to discussing books and finding new books to read. Mount TBR can never get high enough, right?

message 1288: by Cindy (new)

Cindy (cindyd) Hi! My name is Cindy. I love to read, mostly fiction, but I have a hard time saying no to an interesting biography/autobiography/memoir. My yearly average is around 115 books. I plan on reading 120 this year. I'm old fashioned and I prefer to read a book that I hold in my hand, but I do own an e-reader & I keep it in my purse so that I am never without something to read. I'm looking forward to participating in some of the challenges. :)

message 1289: by Diana (new)

Diana Jadan | 1 comments Hi there! New to the group (obviously right ;)) and hoping to take part in the 52 book 2015 Reading Challenge. Haven't used Goodreads before so still finding my way around :)

message 1290: by Morpho (new)

message 1291: by Ariel (new)

Ariel (lamot_amant) | 728 comments Hi, I'm Ariel. I'm 26, I've had my GoodReads account for awhile but finally got around to using it for more than quote-hunting. I'm a student, a painter, and a book nerd. Very happy I stumbled on this group, it looks wonderful.

I read a bit of everything but I've been in a classic fic deluge for seemingly forever. So I'm really up for recs and reading people's reviews on their challenge books. :)

message 1292: by Rose (new)

Rose (obsessedreader9) | 1 comments Hello, readers! My name is Rose and I was very involved with challenges on PaperBack Swap (although I wasn't into swapping). I want to continue pursuing the challenges--I love how they expand my reading horizons, but I can't continue on PaperBack without paying a fee. (I would do this, but, as I said, I'm not into the swapping--only reading their forums.)

Anyway, I've been meaning to join Goodreads for a few years, but I never could figure out the method of entry (I have done my share of commenting, however). So I'm in with you all. Thanks.

message 1293: by Shay (new)

Shay (smorgendorff) Hello! I'm Shay, 32, from Hilliard, OH. I belong to a local book club here in the city, but I'm always looking to expand my horizons and try out different kinds of genres. I love my sci-fi/fantasy/adventure, but I've been enjoying just about anything and everything as of late. Nice to meet everyone! :)

message 1294: by Lara (new)

Lara (laislinns) | 2 comments Hi :) I'm Lara from Grahamstown, South Africa. I'm an Accounts Manager and own a photography business on the side. I love reading, but have found myself doing less and less of it due to stress and time constraints, but am hoping to change that this year :D

message 1295: by Cassandra (new)

Cassandra | 5832 comments Welcome to the group, everyone! Take a look around and jump right in to whatever sounds interesting. :)

message 1296: by [deleted user] (new)

Hi! My name is Rosa, I'm thirtyish and from Austria. My favorite genres are (urban) fantasy, some scifi, old fashioned crime... And I love zombies! I'm not really a fan of thriller, chick lit, paranormal romance, hardcore fantasy, history settings and I absolutely loathe elves and fairy courts and the like.

I'm here because I love reading challenges!

message 1297: by Bernhard (last edited Feb 08, 2015 01:08PM) (new)

Bernhard | 10 comments Hallo! I'm Bernhard and in my early 20s. I live in Austria. Last year I manly read secondary literature for my subjects of study, so for this year I set my self a goal to read 50 books (at least), that aren't related to the subjects. I'm not very picky about the genre and happily explore new ones.
Currently I'm reading the third Kate Brannigan volume, by Val McDermid, and next I'll tackle the second Sandman Slim or The Silver Linings Playbook.

I'm a fan of scifi, fantasy, adventure, and a sucker for a good romance novel. My starting goal for 2015 will be 25 books. I've already read 3 so far so I'm at a good start.
