afrijackson | 4 comments Hi everyone! I'm África, I'm 17 and I'm spanish. I love reading, and I read about anything, although I am not a big fan of romance novels, I read several of them and I can read them if the argument is good. Even though my english is not too bad (or so I think), it isn't my first language, so I'm sure I'll make mistakes writing and expressing myself, and I apologize in advance. I've never been in a group like this so I'm excited to be part of it!

message 1152: by Victoria (new)

Victoria | 28 comments Hi Joanna, Anna and Africa welcome to the group, we are a friendly bunch so feel free to ask any questions and share great book recommendations.

Joanna I love historical fiction too, my favourite is Tudor England I love it! But I'm recently getting into some Elizabethan England which is a fascinating part of history. Do you have any particular favourite time periods or authors?

Look forward to seeing you guys taking part in the group

message 1153: by Cindy (new)

Cindy | 38 comments Hey everyone!
I'm Cindy, 26 years old and I'm from Germany.
I read almost anything but I am not really a fan of scary reads. Reading is my way to escape to an entire different world after an exhausting day.
This is my first time participating in a reading challenge, so I'm pretty excited.

message 1154: by Leslie (new)

Leslie (gattsu) | 110 comments Hello! My name is Leslie and I am new to the group and to Goodreads. I love most literature and I have a Sid spot for British, Latin American, and American souther gothic lit. I'm making an effort to read more contemporary fiction and more non fiction overall.

message 1155: by Kim (new)

Kim (flychickadee) | 13 comments hi!

I'm Kim. I joined this group last year and then life got too crazy. So I'm reintroducing myself.

I loved reading as a kid. I was always that one with a book in my face unless I was at sports practice. I currently live in MN and am getting ready to apply for grad school.

I'm hoping this year allows me to participate more!

*k

message 1156: by Anna (new)

Anna hey! I'm Anna, I joined this group to keep track of how many books I read. You know it's never to many, but I want to check how much do I actually read. I love reading and hope to be able to read a lot this year (it probably won't be possible, because of my final exams). I want to read mostly classic this year.

message 1157: by Brooklyn (new)

Brooklyn | 68 comments Hello, I'm Brooklyn. I read pretty much anything I can get my hands on. My favourite genres are science fiction and fantasy, and my favourite author is probably Neil Gaiman.

message 1158: by Catherine (new)

Catherine (madcatter) Hi All,
I'm Cathy and I live in PA. I read about 200 books last year mostly mystery. I'm hoping to broaden my reading this year.

message 1159: by Jessica (new)

Jessica Hey everyone! I'm jess . I love to read, I mostly read YA books. Some of my favorite genres are fantasy & Historical fiction.

message 1160: by Joanna (new)

Joanna | 3 comments Hi Victoria, I too love Tudor England. I dont have a favourite author although I've read many books by Philippa Gregory. I enjoy any era up to end of 19th century. I would say the other Boleyn girl, Pillars of the earth and World without end would be my fav books

Victoria | 28 comments Philippa Gregory is brilliant I also love C J Sansome he write some great books set in Tudor times and has a great way of making the time period come to life of the page. Hope you enjoy getting involved in the group

message 1163: by Argentina (new)

Argentina | 1 comments Hi, everyone! I'm Argentina. I used to be an avid reader but the last few years life has gotten in the way. I'd really love to reconnect with my passion for books and reading. This challenge certainly seems like a step in the right direction.

message 1164: by Hannah (new)

Hannah (hannahsmanyhobbies) Hey, I'm Clara. I'm obsessed with YA and Tv watching and blogging.

message 1165: by Sharon (new)

Sharon | 2 comments Hi,I'm Sharon and love to read. My favorites are mystery, fantasy and suspense. Romance is okay, so long as the sex scenes aren't too explicit or repetitive. I also don't care for blood and gore unless it's light. I love that I can now get some free books and broaden my horizons. This reading challenge is a great idea. So far out of my hundred I have ten done, and we're only ten days into the new year. Guess I'll be changing that soon. Happy reading everyone. It's great to be here.

message 1166: by Cassandra (new)

message 1167: by Heather (new)

Heather (bigaitchc) Hi, I'm Heather, I have been on Goodreads for about a year, but this is my first group. I love true crime, and books that 'grab me' by page 5.
Slowly the paperback collection in my house has been whittled down .... I am a kindle lover.

message 1168: by Katariina (new)

Katariina | 35 comments Hi! I'm Katariina from Finland. I love book challenges, especially the "pointless" ones (read a book with a door on the cover)! :D
My favourite genre is scifi but I read all sorts of books. No horror though.

message 1169: by Victoria (last edited Jan 10, 2015 02:23PM) (new)

Victoria | 28 comments Katie wrote I love Philippa Gregory and have been looking for another author writing about the same subjects. Can you suggest a book? :-)

It depends what you mean by the same subjects if you mean female royalty protagonists in Tudor times then Anne O'Brien might be a good place to start I haven't read any of her books personally but a friend of mine has and she thinks they are very good some of her books are The King's Concubine, Devil's Consort, The Forbidden Queen and The King's Sister. If however you are looking for different genres in Tudor England and like murder/crime stories then I cannot recommend C J Sansom enough he has written five brilliant books called Dissolution, Dark Fire, Sovereign, Revelation and Heartstone and they are amazing books I thoroughly enjoyed each and every one so I guess it just depends what you're after

message 1170: by Victoria (new)

Victoria | 28 comments No worries at all hope you find something you like :)

message 1171: by Dolores (new)

Dolores Anderson | 3 comments hey my name is from Dolores I'm from SC USA. I like more Sci-fi and Thriller and Mystery but I am always open to new books.

message 1172: by Brandi (new)

Brandi | 61 comments Um, hello everyone. My name is Brandi. How do you do? I'm joining this group because I want to make reading a higher priority in my life. As a child, I used to devour books so quickly that my mother would complain about how often she had to drive me to the local library. I want to recover that hunger for knowledge and learning again. I'm not the book-eating monster that I used to be, and I'd like to change that.

What you should know about me is that I'm starting down the path to becoming a crazy cat lady; I giggle like a school girl when I read romance novels because I can't take them seriously; and I find it fascinating that two of my favorite authors - J.R.R. Tolkien and C.S. Lewis - were both involved in a book club of sorts called The Inklings that met in a modest pub (and that the two were best friends).

My favorite genres and/or the usual genres that keep finding their way into my hands are classics, young adult books, and fantasy novels.

message 1173: by Yasmin (new)

Yasmin (museyasmin) Hi everyone!
My name is Yasmin and I am 18 years old. I come from Germany, Russia and Turkmenistan and I am very obsessive about my books.
I love many genres - starting from 19th century novels by Dickens and Bronte sisters and ending with modern dystopia books e.g. "1984", "The Hunger Games", "Corpus Delicti" and so on...
My life goal is to read most of the classics because I believe that they are most educational books/ books of high quality. Currently, I am mostly interested in historical fiction, memoirs and books about Russian culture e.g. "Anna Karenina" by Leo Tolstoy or books by a modern author Lyudmila Ulitskaya.
Finally, I wish you all good luck with accomplishing your challenges ;)

If anyone could help me how to go about, I'd be glad ^.^

message 1176: by Arushi (new)

Arushi (arushi1) | 98 comments Hi! I'm Arushi. I'm 17 and I absolutely love reading. I've been an avid reader for quite some time now but I never used to keep track of the books I read. I tried to shelf as many books I had read as I could when I joined Goodreads but I could only recall around a hundred and fifteen or so. Now, however, I've developed the habit of bookmarking and rating books and I'll continue to do so this year. That's why I've taken up the 2015 reading challenge and I plan on reading at least 100 books this year AND keeping a record of those books. I've already read 7 and I'm currently reading The Long Walk by Stephen King. I hope this year turns out well! =)

message 1177: by Minttu (new)

Minttu Hi! I'm Minttu from Finland, 34 years old and just had my firstborn so I'm spending a lot of time at home. Hopefully I'll have time to read books in between taking care of my baby and juggling my other hobbies, which include but are not limited to knitting, weightlifting and stuff :)

I used to read massive amounts when I was younger but somehow it got less and less when I entered university. I think it had a lot to do with having to read so much for my studies, but this year I hope to pick up mainly fiction. Unfortunately I didn't keep track of what I've read before I registered to Goodreads, so there's only a fraction of my books here.

I marked 52 books for this year's challenge. I figured one book for every week is a relatively achievable at this point in my life, but depending on how I'm spending my summer, I wouldn't mind doubling the amount. Also a new thing for me is e-books, I just bought my first e-reader, Sony PRS-T3S and before that I've read a couple of e-books on my phone Samsung Note 1, but the Sony Reader is far more comfortable for reading.

message 1178: by Sam (new)

Sam (siburgess) | 25 comments Hello all, name's Sam. Been hovering around on Goodreads dropping the occasional review for a few years now, but never really got involved in the social side of the website; making a concerted effort to change that in 2015!

Last couple of years I've only just achieved my Reading Challenge by the very skin o' my teeth, but I'd still like it to be a real challenge (75's not bad) and thus would like to try something entirely different. Mostly I favour the horror, SF and fantasy for genre fiction, but crime, historical fiction, and thrillers I've sorely neglected - shameful, given that I'm a bookseller - where to start?

Jenny*=^.^=CrazyKatLady=^.^=*InMO (jennycrazykatladyinmo) Hi, I'm Jenny. I like to read most anything but mystery and romance. (Though I love the Outlander series!) I have 4 cats, live in Missouri and love my Kindle.
I also love new friends so take a glance at my shelves and send me a note if you would like to chat about books, life or just anything.

message 1180: by Erika (new)

Erika Hi *waves*
I'm Erika. 32 years old, from Southern Maine. I am an avid reader and have been trying for years to read 52 books in a year. Last year, I finally reduced it to 20 books and was just 1 book shy at the end of the year. This years goal is 25 books. I used to devour books constantly and have missed making time for it. I'll read just about anything and am always open to suggestion.

message 1181: by Scott (new)

Scott Ivlow (scottinwinterhaven) It is so neat to witness the daily growth from New members to this group. There is supposed to a mod to tell you all welcome aboard to your 2015 reading challenges. I am always amazed how one can read a book in a week's time when it takes me 2 weeks to read a book under 400 pages. I work fulltime and also like to watch TV. Which doesn't give me the time to read more than 30 pages a day.

message 1182: by Mani (new)

message 1184: by Heather (new)

Heather Barley | 1 comments Hey I'm Heather and it's my first year for setting a reading goal. I just really got into reading last year during the summer while doing a summer reading program with my local library. After I did that I started buying a lot of books. More then any person could ever need an now I have around 60 books on my TBR shelf so my goal for this year is to read 60 books but really my goal is to read more then that and to get my TBR shelf down to only one self on my book case. Which would then be only about 15-20 books.

message 1185: by Courtney (new)

Courtney | 15 comments Hey, :) I'm Courtney and I love to read YA books and I'm trying to get into Dystopian and Science fiction and Fantasy fiction books too. I am always open to friend requests and always open to talking about a book that I have read/ am reading. Really, if you ramble about Nothing but everything books, add me. I have been told many atime that I am a good listener, :)

message 1186: by Emma (new)

Emma Brown | 3 comments Hey, I'm Emma, new to the group! This is the first year I have taken the reading challenge and have set myself the goal of 30 books. I will read most things if they sound appealing, but I love crime/mystery/thriller books the most. I love the suspense of it all!!

Nice to meet you all!

message 1195: by Mary (new)

Mary (goodreadscomuser_marymic) | 4 comments Hello All, I'm Mary. When I got married some 25 years ago, I typically blasted through at least 2 books a week. I don't recall ever seeing my husband pick up a novel, although he could usually be found with the latest copy of PC Mag or some other math/sci/techie type of material. Recently, I realized that now, he is the one reading the novels while I fall asleep. The kiddos are off to college, so it's time for me to resume my former reading habits.
