Renee | 108 comments Hello, my name is Renee, and while I love to read about anything, I've been trying to read more modern fiction (preferably with a good plot) and historical non-fiction. So far, i'm coming off binge-reading for my entire winter break, and hope to continue that into 2015 with (at least!) a book a month... I'm hoping that posting semi-regularly here will help with that!

Thanks for having such an encouraging group!

message 1102: by Jennifer (new)

Jennifer (knitgirl7) Hi, I'm Jennifer and I read just about everything. This is my third year of challenging myself in a group. Usually I do an alphabet challenge, but decided to do something different this year. I have a list of things like, read a book with a color in the title, read a book from the year you were born, read a book by an author that has your same initials, etc. It will be interesting to see if I can find books for all my categories, lol!

message 1103: by Jeanette (new)

Jeanette Chaplin I'm Jeanette and I'm an online English teacher and an author in addition to being an avid reader. I read a lot of books in my genre (mystery), but this year I'm trying to get out of the rut and read some mainstream and other genres. I think it's time to revisit some of the classics as well. I wonder if Tale of Two Cities will be as captivating as it was in high school!

Ren (sojo817) | 2 comments Hi, I'm Ren. I love reading and I want to spice up my reading habits by doing more reading challenges and read-a-thons in 2015.

message 1105: by Jennifer (new)

Jennifer (knitgirl7) I hope this link works. This is the challenge posted by Goodwill Librarian on Facebook that I'm going to try and complete this year. https://www.facebook.com/GoodwillLibr...

Rachel W (razzle97) | 89 comments Hello all! I'm Rachel. I'm really excited to join you guys! It seems like you have a lot going on, and I am always looking for new reading challenges. I read a lot of literary fiction, but still enjoy the occasional science fiction or fantasy novel. One of my goals this year is to read more non-fiction and classics. I also like the "read women" challenge you have going on. Will probably look into that one soon. I hope you are all having a great start to your new year!

I was in a book club back in high school and loved it! Me and a couple friends were even talking about starting one of our own up. Book clubs are such a wonderful experience.

And I like your ideas, I've heard variations of reading challenges, perhaps I shall try a few of these myself at some point.

The link worked great, and there are some pretty cool ideas on the list.

message 1110: by KatRi (new)

KatRi Hello, I'm Katri from Finland! I am a mother of a baby girl who is now 11 months old and I'm slowly starting to pick up the pace with my reading again. I like to read just about everything though mystery/thrillers aren't usually my favourites since I get scared easily...

message 1111: by Amber (new)

Amber (akamber) | 21 comments Hi, I'm Amber from Alaska! I'm mom to a rambunctious 8yo boy who keeps me pretty busy. I am excited about my reading challenge for this year. I fell short of my goal last year so I'm hoping to reach it this year. I like to read a good variety of books - it just depends on what mood I'm in when I reach for a new one!

message 1112: by Nicole (new)

Nicole Hi, I'm Nicole from Germany and I love to read.
I started some challenges last year but family and work got in the way and I could not finish. For this year I thought this challenge interesting.
I love mysteries the most but also read romance or everything else. Books set in Scotland are high on my list.

Clair (clairreads) Hi, I'm Clair :)

I've just started (well, October) a book blog called Clair Reads. I'd love people to take a look :)
http://clairreads.blogspot.co.uk

I'm 25, a primary school teacher in London, and I love most types of books. My favourite are urban fantasies, so I'd love recommendations.

message 1115: by Tina (last edited Jan 06, 2015 06:33AM) (new)

Tina | 155 comments Hi, I'm Tina. I'm new here. I'm a stay-at-home mom with 3 kids. I've previously been in a 50 book reading challenge group but I can never manage to read that many in one year! I'm hoping for 25 this year!! I've always loved good old-fashioned romance and contemporary fiction. Lately, I've really been on a mystery/thriller kick. Hope to discover new books on here and have fun!

message 1116: by Stephanie (new)

Stephanie | 8 comments Hi, I’m Stephanie. This is my first Goodreads (or any, actually) book club, and I’m excited to be here. I tend to stick with fiction reads but enjoy any genre. I’m hoping to get more active on the GR site, complete some reading challenges, and get some great book recommendations! :)

Nadia Uhlenhaker | 170 comments Hey, I'm Nadia. I like to read just about everything, but I'm a picky reader. This is my first Group and I joined because, well, it seemed like a good idea.

message 1121: by Hillary (new)

Hillary | 4 comments Hello all and a happy new year! I love to read and I always have...I go through spurts of having my nose in a book 24/7 to not having a chance to open a book for months. My husband travels for his job and with 2 small kids and work it's sometimes hard to keep up with all the books I have on my TO READ list! I HATE not finishing a book no matter how long it takes me or how bad it is!!! I'm always looking for a good read so I'm hoping to get some good feedback on books from the group.
first question-are we all reading something different or is there a list of books we are reading as a group??

message 1122: by [deleted user] (new)

Hi I'm April. I have always loved to read, but as I've gotten older have found it more challenging to find the time. Hoping to find more time to read this year.

message 1123: by Kayla Rayne (new)

Kayla Rayne (kaylarayne) Hey everyone. My name is Kayla Rayne and I am not new to reading, but I am new to talking about reading. I have joined this group in addition to keeping a YouTube Channel in order to get me out of my reading by myself habits and join a community of fellow readers! I look forward to keeping up with this group and seeing others meet their goals!

message 1124: by Claire (new)

Claire (claire6452) | 718 comments Hillary, we have several things that we do in this group that involve a number of people reading the same books. Every month there is a group read, which, for this month is The Book of Strange New Things. It's not too late to join in on that if you are interested. There are discussion threads posted so people can talk about the books.

Then we have Buddy Reads. People post books that they want to read, and other members will decide to read it together. Sometimes that will be just a few people, and other times there may be a lot of folks joining in.

And we also do TBR twins, when two members are paired up and they pick a book that they both have on their to-read shelf.

Lots of opportunities to read with others and share your thoughts!

message 1125: by Martine (new)

Martine Ferland | 13 comments Hi! I'm Martine from Montreal =) Obviously like the rest of you I love to read, but I'm also a giant neuroscience and linguistics geek. In general I am a very intense and passionate person. I live to learn and I become genuinely interested in almost anything I try.

I joined the reading challenge because I love to make lists and completing them in different domains of my life, and I thought I'd give it a try in my readings too.

You guys seem so nice, it's very welcoming =)

Andrea (acont33) | 3 comments Hello, I'm Andrea. I am addicted to reading. This year my goal is to read 65 books! If I could spend all my time reading I would, unfortunately I do have to do things like work, eat and sleep. I also play the flute in two different groups, so that takes up some of my reading time.

message 1141: by Amy (new)

Amy Higdon (amyhigdon) | 270 comments Hello all, I'm Amy, 23 years old and from England.
I have loved books since I can remember and although reading is one of my favourite past times, I find that I don't get lost in a good book half as much as I'd like to. So this year, as part of a New Year's Resolution, I decided to start my first ever book challenge, after finding out about Goodread's Challenges and seeing how lovely and supportive everyone is on here, as it'll hopefully keep me on track. I like to read a whole host of genres and am always open to book suggestions, if you have any? :)

message 1142: by Yan (new)

Yan (yanariane) | 1 comments Hi everyone!

message 1143: by Alan (new)

Alan Wilson | 36 comments Hi I'm Alan from Scotland.
I read mostly crime books but last year I started venturing into different genres, although I draw the line at romance haha. I'll be doing the same this year and might set myself some sort of challenge. I tend to take it turn about between reading an actual real life book with pages and my kindle but things dont always go to plan!

message 1144: by Mariel (new)

Mariel (mariel_lopez) Hi! I'm Mariel,26, from Dominican Republic. I love reading since high school, I found this group when I was searching for new books to read here on goodreads. Last year I didn't read much, so this year I want to read at least 24 books. I hope I can be active in this group, but I'm also in the middle of an MBA and it takes a lot of my free time. I'm a mood reader as I read someone say. I like to read fiction, nonfiction, mysteries, romance, fantasy, science fiction, contemporary, etc.

Have a great day and an awesome year!

message 1145: by Lynette (last edited Jan 08, 2015 07:04AM) (new)

Lynette Hello! My name is Lynette and I am 25 years old and I currently reside in Texas with my husband and our two fur children. I love, love, love, love to read. And I love books! There is just something about going to the book store and buying a book that just makes my heart so happy. I have been told that I should invest in a Kindle or another type of device because of my excessive book collection but I just prefer an actual book over an electronic copy. I am excited to be apart of this group and talk about books! :)

Hi Robyn! I live in McKinney and I think I have driven through Saginaw before. I don't believe it is too far from me! My friend tells me she was the same way about paperbacks and that the Kindle paperwhite is just like a book. I have looked it up and have went back and forth on if I wanted to get one or not but I couldn't make myself buy it. But she says the same thing as you though so maybe one day I will make that transition. :)
