The most important aspect of these two characters is the very question they pose;
Do they plan everything or do they make it up as they go!!

Okay, it's a joke topic. But the question is still an interesting one if you ignore the Pirates' side of it.
Does Gandalf know what he's doing or is he winging it? I think a little of both.

Yes.... I find everything about them the same!
I mean they both look the exact same age, don't you think?
The way Gandalf is sooo sarcastic and his jokes!
The way Jack Sparrow carries around a white magic staff...
Their beards!
They're both magnificent leaders, right?
Don't even get me started on their clothing... exactly the same!
Their personalities are the same too!
The fact that they're both captains of a ship!
And that they can both do magic things with a stick they carry around!
Not to mention they're both on a mission to destroy THE ONE RING!
