This books is extremely descriptive, and at some points some of the content in pointless. I love the story and the characters, but the author could have cut this book down by 200 pages.

I actually like Jake, he seems like a somewhat trustful guy for a lawyer. The first chapter or two of the book, i was disturbed, i wanted to but the book down and not finish, I was shocked at what i was reading! The details of the raping were crazy!

FREE CARL LEE.... :)

Liza | 35 comments I barely watched the movie, I don't think I can stomach the book.

I read a book called "Rape: A Love Story" by Joyce Carol Oates and I have flashbacks of that story. (shudder)

I've seen the movie along time ago and now just reading the book. The author is very detailed oriented which is not a bad thing but it could have some boundaries as to how much detail. It can can overwhelming to say the least...the 1st cpl of chp had me with rage and sadness and disgust!

The brutality of those drunken rednecks; perhaps the saddest and hardest part to get through with the addition of little Tonys dream of her father running to get her.

Carl lee did what any parent I think would've done. Yes we aren't pose to take justice into our hands but sometimes it's necessary. However I felt as though they got off easy with sudden death it should have Ben slow and grueling.

I like jake he's very real honest and transparent . N I like his mentor to although he drunk all the time functioning alcoholic...

Reading this book has angered and irritated me by the depth of hatred that exists within racism. I was angered that had Carl lee been a white man bent on avenging his dtg suffering, he would never have had to face trial. Much like it is today really no changes in the injustice of justice.

It is not possible to look at our justice system the same way, ESP from the viewpoint of the black community in the south--even today.

Loved your review, you hit it right on the nail! However, from my POV, I liked the story, but not the author. I wanted to give the writing 2 stars... but the story 3....
