When your import is complete and you have fixed your shelves, how do you fix your incorrect reviews.

I know I am always changing my mind, switching books from "not for me" to "maybe" to "to read" so this has not upset me. I haven't figure out where to put "not for me" books. Did you make an exclusive shelf called "not for me" and put them all there? Somebody else talked about labeling them as private so they do not show up. I can't decide what to do...... How many exclusive shelves can we add? Just one? One alternative would be to make the "not for me" books private and my "maybe" books exclusive. Complicated....

I agree, it is good you let people know which are bad books! Of course this only reflects our own personal pov, but maybe we can save another person from wasting their time! The problem is that if someone looks at your shelves they can be seeing what you do NOT want to read! I use the "not for me" shelf for books I want to remember to avoid. I have not read them and do not intend to, so they do not have stars. My "disliked shelf" is for books that I have read and have only given one star. They are bad, in my opinion. I have to go on thinking how to do this..... Thanks for your advice.

What happened was this: I exported my GR data to a .csv file, then used it to import my data to booklikes. The data on my booklikes Import page matches the data I sent over from GR. BUT when I look at my Shelf page on booklikes, there are books with no authors, for example, that have correct authors on both GR and my BL Import page. Some error occurred when BL took my correct Import and shelved them incorrectly. So, some data was lost AFTER the import was finished, rather than having been lost or incomplete on GR.
This is a major bug, books not being shelved with their proper editions. Who knows how many more besides the 75 I found are incorrect. I don't feel like verifying every book I sent over to see if BL shelved them incorrectly.

I know that I too have books that are listed w/o author when they are shelved at BL, but I am not sure why and I personally feel it is wrong to say where the blame lies. You can still find the books by looking at the title. You work around the problem.
Thank you, Chrissie. I just wanted to know if anyone else in this group had experienced this problem, and maybe find some less painful way to fix it. Yes, I can look through 2,000 books by hand, but the fault still lies with BL shelving my books incorrectly. That's not laying blame, that's just stating a fact.

I have a lot, and plan to continue adding manually to LT, but BL still feels unfriendly to me re their format, not the people; the people are great. I should have been working harder to get my books to LT this last 1/2 year. They have cvs exports there too, and I could have still gotten my books (one way or the other) to BL. But I have 10,000 books (and a few thousand more I've never put on GR) and I'm overwhelmed. (I can't express how angry I am at GR for causing all this.)

Jeannette, you might have already answered this (but I'm lazy) - did your import *just* complete? I know there were some weird things going on on my shelves right after it finished, which (fortunately) I didn't have the energy to fix - but they appeared to have straightened themselves out a day or so later.

Hear hear.
Thanks, Tracey, but it's been a couple of weeks now. I've been in contact with the BL Helpdesk. It won't help me, but it might improve their software.

If you think BL has done something wrong then you should contact them; discuss it with them!

I spoke too soon. I've just started massively moving over my archived reviews and so far, despite import saying all books imported successfully, five were not there. I checked number of books on goodreads = 5,860; number of books on booklikes = 5,839. Apparently I have more to find. Probably I have a few duplicate editions here on goodreads that will account for part of the discrepancy.
I'm going to progress with reviews. And hope by the time I finish booklikes has an export feature so I can have csv files compare data quickly or at least improves shelf sort features so that all the book titles "A Whatever" and "The Whatever" ones don't all sort in with other A/T titles.

Does that just take some time to change?
And second, I see a lot of books over there on shelves with no covers or info. Will that fill in eventually?

Charlene--yes, the totals will take some time to change after the import is complete. I think mine didn't update for a couple of days.

How long ago did your import complete? That stuff continues to fix itself for a few days after BL tell you your import is complete in my experience.

This is not correct in my experience. Even my fanfiction entries came over - sometimes with a cover (I suspect when someone else here already fixed the cover).

Good for you -- and I wasn't saying that it never works. I was merely (in response to a specific question) explaining one reason WHY it doesn't work IF it doesn't work, according to what BookLikes themselves have been telling us.

Oh, OK. I misunderstood.

No worries. :)

Does anyone know how to delete a review w/o deleting the book itself?
My situation is that I completely forgot about some of my shelvings which had FYI type of info in the review field. So all of those got marked as 'reviews' when imported to BL. I'm currently trying to get rid of them by deleting the text via edit function but it won't save (get error msg instead re: 'pls add text' or somesuch. :(

And search for title and hover the entry and click delete.
At least that would be my assumption. I haven't tested it though. You can just go ahead and being the guinea pig this round hehe.

Will report back later. :)

I think its only recent (read Thursday's update)
http://blog.booklikes.com/post/684251...
That it was made available;
"You can also use blog admin view to edit reviews. If you want to edit text added some time ago, you can use search box (paste post title) instead of scrolling down. Once the post is found hover over it and click Edit in upper right corner. Then make corrections and Save with your changes."
//Edited to add;
Next to the edit button is the delete one.

What if you uncheck the "review" button on the right hand side? Will that disconnect the text from the book without deleting the book? Then you can delete the post.
I have a few that came over as "reviewed", where I actually never wrote a review. I'm inclined to see that as a flaw on GR's side as well, though -- Kaia had her husband (who is a software engineer) look into these issues in connection with the synchronization kerfuffle, and his conclusions were IIRC that while we can't know for sure because we don't actually know the relevant APIs' code, it is at the very least more likely that it's an issue on GR's side, not BookLikes's.
That said, when I did my import, BookLikes did not yet have exclusive shelves, so all the books I had on exclusive shelves here came over as "want to read." A bit embarrassing on those I'd shelved "not for me" (exclusively, to get around having to shelve them as either "read" or "to be read"), but long since amended! :)
