The Flounder Flats Festival Fiasco by Bert Paul:

A couple of odd organizations involving the elderly residents of High Towers in T-Ville are plotting to hoard…something, and store it…somewhere. They think their activities in this regard may be illegal, but necessary.

Someone falls down an elevator shaft at the towers and dies. Accidentally? Or on purpose? The Bright Lights and Cataract Club and the Presbyopians of America are not necessarily all they seem to be. (And they can't necessarily see all they mean to be.)

To get the other residents of T-Ville out of town and out of the way the day the "product" is delivered, word goes out about the 75th Annual Flounder Flats Festival being held that day. Most residents attend, even though they've never heard of this festival before. Most are unaware of severe weather headed their way, or that the festival is in a swamp. Swamps are bad places for festivals and parking lots. Things tend to sink.

For no good reason, everyone starts to worry about being gobbled up by a ravenous space creature. Uncle Bert insists repeatedly that there is NO space creature in the story, but as often happens, the characters in the story may know more than the narrator.

Breaking the fourth wall once again, it's a Strange Uncle Bert story that will be sure to keep you laughing!

About Author Bert Paul:

I grew up in and around Titusville, PA. I graduated Titusville High School as valedictorian in 1977. I graduated Summa Cum Laude from Westminster College in New Wilmington, PA, 1981, with a double major in math and computer science. Worked for a large computer company for 24 years as software developer, software tester, and information developer (technical writer). I was laid off and am now working as a technical writer for another company.

I like to claim that my short stories are the result of exposing my brain for too long to corporate America. I started writing the stories for my sister’s kids when they were little so they’d have something different from Uncle Bert. Then I decided to start writing again after a long hiatus (due to hectic work schedule and other issues). A former co-worker suggested I see if I could get any of them published.

I have lived in Raleigh, NC since 1983, when the company I worked for transferred me here. I visit my home town occasionally, but consider Raleigh “home” now. I hate cold weather, snow, and ice.

I spend my spare time reading, writing, watching old movies, hunting for my reading glasses or car keys, and taking the occasional out-of-town trip for fun. I am blessed with some good friends, but never met my “Mr. Right”. (Had some fun with some of the Mr. Wrongs, though.) I have lived in the same house for 26 years (all paid for now!) and own too many cars. (Love the '77 Monte Carlo....looks like new.)
