Halloween Read-A-Thon Discussion Thread

For event #2, we need to decide on 5 tasks and work together to complete them. They must be posted in order. Just brainstorming some books I have for the categories:

We could do spell-it-outs for themes 4 and 7. Sky's the limit here! (We only need to use up to 5 letters)

I can help out with the spell it out. I don know how helpful I will be with the categories bc I hate reading must of those topics so I will try the best I can

The good news is, we can probably work it out to where you would only need to read for the spell it outs, or maybe read just 1 for the other categories.
Also, if more people join in to read the 15 required books, it will be easier for everyone.
Hi! Are we doing the read like a banshee portion. I just went back to school, so I have lots of pages assigned.
Themes 6, 8 and 9 are where I can really rock it out. I think that paranormal creatures one would be better than the horror one? I think it leaves more options. I have a huge stack of paranormal books to be read, a few horror...that's my two cents, take it for what it's worth. But I also agree we should have a spell it out for the people not into horror/paranormal stuff which is what most of the rest of it seems like.
Question on the theme challenge....can the books be started prior to the challenge or do they have to be books begun October 4?

Would anyone object to having two spell-it-outs for our 4th and 5th tasks? You can use title, author, or character name.

on event #1 read a thon is there a minimum page count and do the books read for event #2 count toward event #1?

Task 2 = 2 books from 1 theme
Task 3 = 3 books from 1 theme
Etc.
So, for example (this is just an example), we choose Theme #8 Supernatural Creatures for task 3. Midu, Amy, and Joyce each read a book with a supernatural creature for that task.

I believe the minimum page count is 160. Books read for event 1 will count for event 2.
Here are the rules for Event #2. Note we can use books that have been started before the read-a-thon, however we can't post our first task until October 5 at a specific time (time clocks not posted yet).◈ Rules:
- Books started prior to the read-a-thon will count.
- One post per team per step. It can be any member, if the team captain isn't available.
- Steps have specific days in whihc they can be posted. Which means, that a step can't be posted before the correspondent day. The day and hour will be based on the Greenwich time zone, with a countdown similar to the one for the read-a-thon which allows to easily convert into your time zone.

Sandy can the book I'm reading say for category 4 be finished before October 11? Like if I were reading
which is a ghost story and I finished on the 5th could it count for Supernatural Creatures or do I need to read something for task 2 or 3 before I move on to 4?
Yes, Jennifer, you can read your books any time during the challenge. We just need to post our tasks in order.

I don't think the page goal is something set in stone. We will be using actual pages read to factor into the ratio. The more pages we read, the better our score.
Our book goal doesn't change; it's what we decided at the beginning of the overall challenge.

Finished Salem's Lot for Task #1.It wasn't nearly as creepy as I expected for a King book. I found the dated language/dialogue funny at times. Still, it's a classic!
