I would not read because I am not that interested in baseball or riots and looting. I'm more interested in fiction books.
I don't read non-fiction but I guess this will be an exception. But I'm not sure because I'm more interested in fantasy and fiction.

Understandable. So what kind of books do you like to read? Would you be interested in any type of non-fiction?

The largest portion of the book is dedicated to the Yankees, but if you're ok with baseball talk it's a very good read.

New York City was a very different place in the 70s and 80s. The title of the book comes from a line said by baseball announcer Howard Cosell during game 2 of the World Series. At that time many of the buildings around Yankee Stadium were set ablaze for insurance fraud and larceny. Dangerous and exciting times.

Fair enough. I'm the same way, but every once in a while there's a good non-fiction that keeps my interest. Sometimes you just have to dig deep to find it.

Don't get me wrong. You do not have to read this. It's just a suggestion for anyone who's interested in stories like this. I'm also very fond of fantasy fiction, so if you want any recommendations I'll be more than happy to steer you toward some books.

Every line in this book is fact. Very turbulent times when NYC was a very different place.

This book sounds a bit interesting but doesnt really catch my attention. I feel like baseball books are boring and im more interested in basketball or football books. Also it doesnt bother me that the book is non-fiction.

If you'd be into a non-fiction football book, a great one is Brian's Song by William Blinn. It's written as a screenplay, so it takes getting used to stage directions and camera shots, but it's one of the best football stories I've ever read. It's about running backs for the Chicago Bears in the 1960s. One is the legendary Gale Sayres. The other, the veteran Brian Piccolo. Deals with issues of race relations at a difficult time in US history and the close friendship the two eventually form. Great book. Sweet movie.

The name of the book is Ladies and Gentlemen, the Bronx is Burning. There's a link to the goodreads review page at the top of my post. If you would like to read it I have a copy. Just let me know when you would like it so I can bring it in.

That's alright. Look into Brian's Song and I'll look to see if I can find any other good ones.

I don't really like this book because it's a back in the day book and I am not really a sports fan espically not a baseball fan so I would always fall asleep sorry lol
I would like to read this book. However, I do not like non fiction. I do like what it's about. It wouldn't hurt to give it a try.
Sounds captivating. I'd like to give this book a try since I'm into books that have specialize in time lapses. It gets interesting. But I'm not into sport related writings however I like the combination of events.

This is the first book I would like to recommend in our reading group. While I am not usually a big reader of non-fiction, I found this book to be one of the best I have read in years. It discusses four major events that took place during the summer and fall of 1977. It was a time when the constantly feuding Yankees were making a run to the World Series, a serial killer was on the loose in New York city, a massive blackout led to widespread riots and looting, and a mayoral election captivated the city. I highly recommend this to anyone looking for a taste of classic NYC history. It won't disappoint.
