ABANDONED. YA, M/M (gay) Post Apocalyptic romance set on another planet

I'm trying to find a book a read a few years ago and can't remember the title. Its an m/m (gay) romance book thats set in a type of post apocalyptic setting on another planet where a boy is but in cryo sleep to await a cure for his illness only to wakes up centuries later after a viral breakout has taken hold of most people on the planet, turning them into strange armor plated creatures. When he first wakes he encounters one of these creatures and does something to it, reversing the virus and turning the creature back into a human. This boy gained some special ability during his cryo sleep which is why he was able to do this. The newly turned human character becomes his companion, then lover later in the story. They end up meeting other humans along the way who become either enemies or friends. All humans are infected with the virus but it is slow to progress unless bitten by a turned creature. The infected have markings on there palms that show they are infected. The cryo boy and his companion do not have these markings showing that they are clean from infection, which makes them wanted by some groups. If anyone knows the book I'm talking about please reply with the title. I'm not sure if it was a published book or an unpublished free read.

At the start, does the story focus on his pre-cryo life or is he just waking up? In a hospital?

What illness did he have?

Is he wanted by other groups to help find a cure?
