I am glad that I re-read this one. I really had forgotten how much I enjoyed it. I was surprised to learn that it was part of a 5 book series. I am pretty sure that I never knew that. Which is a shame because if I have known that as a child I am pretty sure I would have devoured the rest of the books!
I enjoyed this series, but I also felt very frustrated reading them because I couldn't understand the theory. I guess that's not the main point of the book, but to this day I still can't figure it out. :/
I read this last year & couldn't stand it - I wonder if it's one of those books you need to read when you're younger?
Same for me Jody, some parts were well done but I was really frustrated by some others, I found that the author spent a lot of time on uninteresting stuff (food) and not enough on the interesting one (culture/exploration). I didn't really like the characters, so it didn't help.
Jody wrote: "I read this last year & couldn't stand it - I wonder if it's one of those books you need to read when you're younger?"Jody it might be. I read it first when I was probably around 10 or 11. So for me it was like talking to a long lost old friend.
I found the characters quite one dimensional & irritating - and the more I read, the more I realise that good characters are what really makes a book great for me. If I can't connect with them, it just doesn't work for me, no matter how good everything else is - writing itself, plot, setting, etc.
Maybe I just had a higher tolerance for the characters as I read it in grade 7, but I enjoyed this book a lot this time around. I loved the time/space concepts (maybe this book is the reason I love time travel stories in movies/shows) and the high concept stuff.
I can see how the characters would be annoying, but honestly, Meg seems pretty realistic for a pre-teen/teenager. I felt myself relating strongly to her, or at least remembering feeling the same at that age.

Scrolling through a list on here I came across A Wrinkle in Time: 50th Anniversary Commemorative Edition by Madeleine L'Engle and knew that was the book I wanted to read for this week. I remember loving this book as a child so I am hoping it is still a good one.
