Hi, I'm Kathy and I'm the communications specialist for the Tennessee Coalition to End Domestic and Sexual Violence. I read mostly nonfiction: memoir, biography, history, nature and science, and other random topics. For fiction, I tend to prefer literary fiction, something well-written and thought-provoking. I did finally read Gone Girl, and I look forward to discussing it in this group. Other DV/SA themed books that are on my radar are Yes Means Yes, Domestic Violence at the Margins, and Hate 3.0 (which isn't out yet).

Agree about Gone Girl! And Kathy: Yes Means Yes is a fantastic read - I highly recommend if you haven't read it already.

Hello, my name is Carrie and I am excited to be invited to join this group!I will read almost anything, but love pure fiction. I have recently been into the Divergent series (hello, Halloween Costume!) and am reading The Cuckoo's Calling.
OK, I picked up Gone Girl at the library and said to my self, "I'll just read the first chapter." 6 hours later I finished it and then slept through my alarm this morning! It was worth it. This book taught me to spend less time judging characters and trying to guess the twist, just enjoy the way the story unfolds.

I have looked at your blog and really like it. You may want to look into my current read The Sabi from South Africa by Diane Brown - fits perfectly with your theme for December. I Highly recommend.
What I particularly like about the book is that issues of violence are not projected as an ailment that afflicts only poor people

Hi, Everyone. I live in Tennessee and am interested in how the inconsistent laws regarding abuse and stalking can be strengthened. My wife was a victim of domestic violence years ago and, as I have read about it, I find that we have not met abuse head on as a society. I'm glad to be here and look forward to reading Pamela's book. Trafficking is another area that needs some legal evangelists in this country.
I encourage you to look at protect.org. It is the first lobbying organization that is dedicated, not to a political or financial agenda, but to strengthen laws regarding child abuse. To me, it's a prototype for the type of effort that will be needed to make comprehensive changes to laws involving all types of abuse.

Hi Everybody. I am about to publish my memoir, and I am terrified. I think there still is the lingering fear of punishment for telling hanging over my head. I have 4 kids, a hubby, and 2 mini-dachshunds that keep my life busy when I'm not writing. If you are ready, please jump into Sara Niles book "torn from the inside out". In addition to writing this non-fiction account of domestic abuse, Sara has worked in the domestic violence field and has quite a bit of knowledge of the ins and outs of abuse law.
