~Leslie~ (akareadingmachine) ◈ How to Read Like a Banshee

Step #1: Set a personal goal and let us know about it- this one is just for fun. It wouldn't be a read-a-thon without some goal, right?

Step #2:Find your team's read-a-thon goal - This is as simple as the sum of the book goals from each participant in the read-a-thon.

Step #3:Keep us posted from your process on the provided thread- this one is very important.

Step #4:Read. Read. Read.
Grab your books. Tell the world to stop during 2 weeks. Tell the kids you will be busy reading. Grab your favorite snacks. Find your favorite reading nook and read like a Banshee.

◈ How to keep track
We will provide a thread for this. After you finish the reading for the day. Or you are changing books. Or you need a break. Whatever. Just go to the thread and say which book you are reading and the amount of pages you read from said book.

Read-a-Thon Duration: October 4th BST 4:00 PM to October 19th BST 4:00 PM

We decided to use the Greenwich hour for two reasons:
1.Is the "zero" hour. All time zones relate to it
2.Daylight saving time change will only occur on October 27th, so it won't interfere with read-a-thon timings.

Here is the link to the Clocks Time around the World

~Leslie~ (akareadingmachine) 1. As with every inter-team challenge, participation is not mandatory.

2. If you are interested in joining us to read like a banshees, you need to set a personal goal. If you are interested in what you read on average for a month (we'll divide by 2 since this is a 2 week challenge), let Rebecca know and she can give you that information. You can set any goal they want - either by day or overall total. Unlike other challenges in the past, we can only use pages read by participants of this challenges.

3. A requirement of the mods for this RaT is to see daily progress. Participants must post in this thread (a new post each time) for the captains to compile into a message for the mods. It doesn't matter if you didn't read any pages or 1,000 pages - we need to know how you are doing.

4. If you started a book before October 4th, you will need to track what you read as of the 4th. For example, I am reading a 300 page book and I'm on page 100 as of October 4th. When I finish on the 5th, I've only read 200 pages (but don't forget to mark that book as read!) Likewise, I am reading a 250 pages book on October 19th and only get to page 75. We can use those 75 pages toward our total goal as well.

5. As indicated in the mods post above, the event winner will be the team with a bigger read-a-thon ratio. This ration is determined by the collective pages read by the team divided by our team's Tower Team Goal (1350 if everyone participates).

6. Starting October 4th, all we have to do for this part of the October challenge is read, read, read, read and you guessed it, read!

There are big book advantage points (BAP) for these two challenges and automatically we get 5 BAP just for participating.

Rebecca NJ (njreader) | 297 comments For the Read-a-Thon participants, Chris has made an awesome tracking table and we don't need to do the math for dead tree books. It would be helpful if you posted you updates with the following:

Update for October 5

Today I read:
The Fellowship of the Ring by J.R.R. Tolkien. I started on page 100 and read to page 150.
A Discovery of Witches by Deborah Harkness. I just started this book and am on page 25.

Today's total - 75 pages

message 25: by Chris (new)

Chris (cdavies1951) | 189 comments It would also be helpful if you complete a book to be sure and mention it - just a COMPLETE will do :-)
