well of course the twist was bad.. but something epic needed to happen! I didn't expect it at all!!! I was shocked... I kind of guessed something like that had happened with Bethy but I didn't expect Tripp's part in it at all!
The twist was difficult, but I just remembered what Bethy said about Tripp destroying her and Jace salvaging the girl she used to be. I want to know more about Tripp and Bethy's history and I want Bethy to have her redemption.
See that's my opinion too. I feel since the twist was delivered on such a bad note, (view spoiler) there's almost no redeeming quality left to Bethy. I share Wood's sentiment. Like you know it's not exactly her fault but you still blame her. It was an accident easily prevented. Too much of a dark cloud in my opinion.

agree.. until now i still blame Bethy.. maybe she's still inlove with Tripp thats why she always went to bar and get drunk, because he's back in town.. if i remember correctly i think bethy told blaire about the abortion in Too far series
I don't know how i feel about bethy and tripp story .. I liked Jace a lot and he was so in love with her and she was acting so so weird with him and i feel that she is responsible for jace untimely death .. Why she didn't behaved maturely specially when she knew about red signs were there in the beach .. i just can't forgive her ...
I am still incredibly sad about Jace :(but I kind of thought that something bad was going to happen between him and Bethy.
I know why Bethy was getting drunk and hitting the bars though.
(or at least I think i do)
(SPOILER AHEAD)
Remember how Jace had told Woods that they had already been talking about marriage and having there own place? well I think she felt guilty for what she did when she was 16 and didn't feel like she actually should get that happiness with Jace.
Up until what was revealed about Tripp in Simple Perfection, I didn't really like him or dislike him. I was indifferent to him. Now I'm a little intrigued.
I was wondering what Tripp's deal was in the other books and I was really glad to learn why he really left. My only thing that bothers me is I think the Jace issue happened just so Tripp and Bethy will be able to get together, and that I did not like.

Ooh--that totally makes sense now. I hadn't thought of it that way. I agree completely.
Yeah I think that was the problem, but I still wish Jace wouldn't have paid with his life.Don't get me wrong I do love Tripp, but… why did they have to kill Jace.
I fell in love with him in the too far series :((
I totally like Tripp but why'd this have to be the set up to his book. I am intrigued about his and Bethy's past though.
Jace died so Tripp and Bethy's story could continue. I didn't know that Tripp has something to do with Bethy.

A rather strange plot device to throw this curve so far into the series. It's been Bethy and Jace since the series began. Abbi Glines could have introduced new girl for Tripp. She could have made Nan his heroine even! There've been no hints as to Tripp and Bethy's past so the others in their circle must not know either. I'm intrigued how the story will be developed.

Am I the only one really upset by this twist?
(Trying to remain vague for those who haven't read Simple Perfection yet)
