Rise looked back at him. Another piece of paper. Excuse me?

"You're emotions are pretty obvious on your face," he chuckled.
Rise blinked slowly. My emotions portray what, exactly? She wrote on the paper.
"That you're annoyed right now," he grinned.
The side of Rise's mouth twitched upwards and turned away.
He chuckled and leaned back in his chair.
Rise grabbed her stuff and headed out the room to lunch.
He followed her. "So, mute girl, what was your name again?"
Rise opened her locker and pointed to a whiteboard on the door. Her name written on it. Rise Cali Heath
"Rise," he smiled. "That's pretty uncommon," he chuckled.
"Hmm, well, Rise... hop off to your friends," he smirked at her.
Rise slammed her locker shut and walked away. God, he was an ass.
Rise went and grabbed her lunch. Sitting in a mostly secluded corner. She didn't care for the bustle if lunch...or the smells.
He walked to the cafeteria, seeing Rise alone. He smirked, going over to her. "You want some company?"
Rise rolled her eyes. She sighed and shrugged. She didn't really care. And conversation was optional.
Jason sat down at her table, watching her in amusement. "Where are your frends?"
Rise shrugged. She wasn't always with them.
"Do you always sit alone?" he asked her curiously.
Rise shook her head. Idly pushing her food around.
"Hmm," he shook his head slightly in thought. "So, were you born like this?"
"That's hard," he said, getting sympathy, even though he didn't like it.
Rise scoffed quietly.
he rolled his eyes. "I'm trying to be nice."
He sighed. "How to talk to a person who doesn't talk back or wouldn't even talk back if she has a voice.." he muttered.
"Well, what do you want to 'talk' about," he asked.
Rise looked up at the roof thinking. Music?
"Music?" he looked at her curiously.
"What kind of music do you like?" he asked gently.
"Pop? Really?" he raised his eyebrows. "I like Rock music."
Rise scrunched up her nose. Rock. I'm nit a fan of that.
"Really? Well, that's sad," he chuckled.
"Rock music is the best music," he grinned.
His eyes widened. "You laughed?"
"But... but you can't talk?" he blinked rapidly.
Rise sighed, writing her answer on a new piece of paper. I don't understand why I can laugh and not talk. No one knows why I can do other things and still not speak. I've tried before, nothing happens. Even my doctors can't figure it out.
"That's really cool and odd at the same time. It gives you hope, doesn't it? At least one part of you chords are working," he said softly.
Rise nodded, biting her lip. ((What if we skipped to the end of school and some of Jason's buddies started to tease her and he got all touchy?))
