message 3: by Carl (new)

Carl Dune, The Dispossessed, Scarlet Letter, Surfacing (Atwood). I reread these every 2-3 years.

In '15 I turn 59 and will only reread books I love through my 60th birthday. Nothing new for a year. The list I have is already almost long enough for that 12 month word feast.

Karen (okiewashere) | 57 comments Some books deserved to be read at least 15 times.
Most books deserve until 5 times.
Those I did not really like - were worth only one read... ;)

@Carl One year without new books - that's tough! If your list for rereads is really long - you will not be bored. :)

Michael Litzky | 79 comments Oh! Beloved books, one of my favorite topics. I'm thinking of writing a blog article on comfort reads. Here are a few of mine:
Gaudy Night by Dorothy Sayers
Pride and Prejudice
Any of the Narnia books
Lord of the Rings
The Forever War by Joe Haldeman
Starman Jones by Heinlein
Childhood's End by Arthur C. Clark
OK, I'll stop. But I could certainly rave on about best beloved books. And yes, all read many times.

I don't often reread because I absorb text very easily, but there are comics I have reread hundreds of times :]

message 9: by J. David (new)

J. David Clarke (clarketacular) | 418 comments I break out The Shadow of the Torturer by Gene Wolfe every so often and re-read it. I've probably read it 10 times by now but I love it soooooooooo much.

Nicole Castro (nicolecastro) | 116 comments Once. I cannot read a book twice. :(

Michael Pearce (michaeltinkerpearce) | 91 comments I don't reread a lot of novels, but I find myself reading 'Palladin' by C.J.Cherryh about once a year for the last twenty years... and I always enjoy it as much as ever.

Michael Litzky | 79 comments Bisky: which comics? I've reread Watchmen, V for Vendetta and Swamp Thing, and will probably reread the Buffy and Angel books. And I treasure Allison Bechdel's Dykes to Watch Out For (I wish she'd do more of them!)

message 14: by Giulia (new)

Giulia Wow, more times than I can count lol Though I'm more of a read it once, move on girl now. I love re-reading my favs though. Just don't it as often as I used to.

message 15: by Carl (new)

Carl Karen, given my history I'll probably crack and read something new. I'm an impulse reader! ;)

message 16: by Karen (new)

Karen Prince | 2 comments Don't laugh! I am ploughing my way through the whole 'Wheel of Time' series (14 books) for the fourth time, and I am still drawn towards it when I am supposed to be working.

I've had them all on audio book. Kinda cheating :x

message 18: by Giulia (new)

Giulia I can't listen to books on audio.

I'd already read it but I heard Harry Potter and the Philosophers stone with Steven Fry, I loved it so much that I don't really give it much thought anymore.

message 20: by Carl (new)

Carl Bitten, why not?

message 21: by Claire (last edited Nov 02, 2013 11:00PM) (new)

Claire (cycraw) | 278 comments @Bisky, have you heard the Jim Dale version of HP audio books? I prefer him, except for when he pronounces Voldemort as Voldemore... that makes me laugh every time. I think someone told him because he pronounces it properly in the later books.
I've reread HP series about seven times. Narnia gets a reread when I'm out of books. I find myself rereading most of the books I really enjoy at least once. Although I tried rereading Eragon and simply couldn't.

message 22: by Harmony (new)

Harmony Kent (harmonyk) I reread my faves so many times .. I probably know the Harry Potters by heart .. like Claire the Narnia books are always a great fallback. I'm currently working my way through the Anne McCaffrey Chronicles of Pern again - I also confess to liking the twilight series. I have listened to audio books, but by far prefer the written word. I must admit though, that Stephen Fry did a fantastic job reading Harry Potter. Haven't hear the Jim Dale version, sounds like fun :)

Hm I feel like I'll be cheating on Steven Fry if I listen to that :P

message 24: by Stephen (new)

Stephen Hadow (stephen_hadow) | 5 comments I dip into my fave books when I need something 'familiar and comforting' to read - usually when my brain's in neutral! Some of my favourite re-reads are:

Dan Symmons 'Hyperion Cantos' - my all time favourite books. I've read the series at least a dozen times as the characters are so damned good/interesting!

Dicken's 'Great Expectations' ... who doesn't love a classic!

Simon R Green's 'Dark Side' series - again, great characters. And last but not least ...

Neil Gaiman's 'Neverwhere'. These are my usual go-to books, but there are many others ...

Now I need to go and work out which I wanna start reading again - since my brain is once again in neutral!

Kartik | 15 comments Favourite books I reread a lot are Siddhartha by Hermann Hesse, a great and beautiful book that can really refresh you spiritually (for me anyway). Also very short so a quick read as well. Another short book I have red a few times is A hero of our times by Lermotov
I have also read The Godfather by Mario Puzo quite a few times.

message 27: by Harmony (new)

Harmony Kent (harmonyk) Siddhartha is one of those books that is really up there - I love that book! I also adore Jonathan Livingston Seagul by Richard Bach. Both are uplifting reads.
