I love writing in the winter when its snowy out. And we actually do get snow here, not that slushy grey stuff we get in england lol.

When is your favourite time to write?

message 2: by Kamil (new)

Kamil | 187 comments I like to write when the sun does not shine too brightly

I ALWAYs write with scented candles.

Although I do have trouble dragging my arse out of bed :p

When I still lived at home, I liked writing early before others wake up. I liked writing in the afternoon and evening on the patio after the sun goes behind the house and provides shade. I really haven't found a great writing time since I've been living at university. :/

I like the scented candle idea! I'll give that a try when I go home next. They don't allow candles in dorms for obvious reasons. I talked to someone on Twitter a month ago about writing in candlelight. That's something I also want to try. :3

Writing in candlelight is only good if you do longhand though. Which I don't :p

Im addicted to smelly candles. I have a cupboard full that people have given me which include:

cinnomen, apple, gingerbread, chocolate tea lights, bubblegum, vanilla, lingonberry (its abit like cranberry), strawberry, linen, cookies and apple pie.

I like to write long-hand sometimes. :3

It seems with that selection your nose will never get 'bored.' :3

See what happens when Im procasting on editing? i start listing things.

And I wish I had nicer handwriting :x

J | 301 comments Mod
I need to start editing, too. xD

You could get a type-writer and use that in the candlelight. But they are loud... >.>

Ann Thorrson (ann_thorrson) | 2536 comments Mod
Ohh thats a good idea though. I think the expensive ones are quite nice. my current keyboard is very loud actually, I can hear the echo over skype lol

J | 301 comments Mod
lol Rapid typists make a lot of noise :3

I actually had a word processor a while back that made type-writer sounds while typing, but it didn't feel too authentic. xD

Hahaha thats adorable :p

message 12: by My Bookbag (new)

My Bookbag by Karen (goodreadscomkaren_metcalf) | 4 comments I like to write in the afternoon, although I keep my notebook close so that I am always ready when an idea (or even a paragraph or two) comes to my mind. With the poetry however, I jot down associated words as they come to mind letting them create the poem. So I guess the real answer is: whenever the inspiration hits me.

message 14: by Quanisha (new)

Quanisha McGruder (quanii_a) | 14 comments I'm a late night/early morning writer. Mostly from 12-3AM I think it's cause it's quieter in the house and I'm more energized (I try not to, but I take a nap after work). Rainy/thunderstorm weather is soothing to write to but we rarely get those here while I'm home.
I can write in the break room at work but the only drawback is that people try to talk a lot to me.
I think I like the idea of writing by candle light, I do write longhanded as well as on the computer. I use piano and instrumental or slow songs to write. So whenever I hear them it starts my brain awhirling :D I use headphones because typing is loud and it distracts me to annoyance :)

message 15: by Ann (new)

Ann Thorrson (ann_thorrson) | 2536 comments Mod
Haha i wonder if thats why I can't write without my headphones on! never thought of it like that! :D

message 16: by Quanisha (new)

Quanisha McGruder (quanii_a) | 14 comments @Bisky I once wrote without them and without any music and the sounds just made me want to stop writing. I wonder how my family can tune it out so easily esp at night.

Ann Thorrson (ann_thorrson) | 2536 comments Mod
Haha, luckily my whole family are gamers so we are used to the noise of thrashing buttons :p But I type -incredibly- fast so I think it owuld get too much for me to listen to myself type :p

message 18: by J (new)

J | 301 comments Mod
@Quanisha - There are a few times I wore ear plugs when writing, and it helped a bit. :3

I haven't really found a music that suits me for writing. When I transcribe content I write in long hand I can have music playing--sometimes with editing.

I like to listen to anime music when I draw and sometimes when I edit. You don't know the words, so they don't distract you--unless you know Japanese of course xD

I guess I never considered if the keystroke sounds are distracted. Maybe they distract me subconsciously.

message 19: by Quanisha (new)

Quanisha McGruder (quanii_a) | 14 comments @Josh I might have to try ear plugs.

Yeah I heard a lot of people who use music in different languages because even instrumentals can be distracting to some.

Subconsciously, they might distract you. Or keep you focused on what you're goal is :D :)

I suppose hearing keystrokes is a sign that you're making progress. :3

message 22: by Topaz (new)

Topaz Winters (topazwinters) Late, late, late at night (or early in the morning, depending on how you look at 11 PM-2 AM). When the house is most quiet and there are zero distractions. :)

I couldn't imagine writing that late. lol - but I guess your sleeping schedule's a variable, too. :3

Well I can't stay up past 11:30 very well, so... :3 haha

I'm trying to adapt to a teacher's schedule. But having a room-mate slightly complicates things.

message 26: by Susan (new)

Susan (authorsusanreid) | 28 comments I'm such a night owl. It's strange, I get my muse and the most creative when its dark both in the room and outside. I find myself up until 4 am sometimes! I think its because everything is so much quieter at that time, and I can actually be alone with my imagination...lol, that can be a good or bad thing I think! :D

message 27: by Topaz (new)

Topaz Winters (topazwinters) @Susan Same here! But then I get up at like 10 AM the next morning... my parents, thankfully, are supportive of my obsessive writing habits and pretend not to notice when I wander into the kitchen at noon and make breakfast :D

LOL! It's like you should be exhausted but when you're high on your own creativity...it's a rush! I still manage to get up early too, not wanting to waste any time if I'm still feeling that burst of creativity (as they say)! Time passes by quickly, but it is sooo nice to have that peace and quiet in the AM hours, no matter who you share your space with that's for sure! :D

Hi Valerie! Coffee...check! I forgot about the incense...I love me some incense! I light mine round when I write at times too, it helps me for meditation also. That's cool! :D

message 35: by Giulia (new)

Giulia I haven't found my fav time to write. I think mornings work best for me but I get up so early for already that it's impossible to get up and write before work. I'm trying to fit it into my evening but so far I'm out of luck.

Carl Generally afternoon.

message 37: by Vanessa Eden (new)

Vanessa Eden Patton (vanessaeden) | 49 comments I love to write after a long night at work. I am a nursing technician at a skilled nursing and rehabilitation center. It can be very stressful at times and writing helps me escape aswell as vent. So usually around 9 am I am off in some other world where I have control.
I also particularly love writing in the fall. Something about the leaves turning colors and the summer slowly fades. Its like watching the world slowly die. I don't know why but it al seems so mystical and mysterious to me.
