Kara | 4 comments I am a little confused about the beef between Luke and Dean. In the episode where Dean gets married, Luke is nice to him and helps him sleep off his drunkenness. Then when Rory and Dean get back together he all of a sudden hates Dean and explains its because he's not good for Rory. Then later on when they're building the Twickham house museum Dean is all mad at Luke and says they are both in the same situation. Someone help me understand what this beef is all about! Thanks :)

Tonya (radio_goddess) | 10 comments Luke is a man who is all about loyalty. And his loyalty is to Rory (because he's known her longer, and she's Lorelei's daughter). So he's taking Rory's side, even when she doesn't know it (the Bop-it episode). But he is also a man who believes in doing what is right, and that means making sure the drunks get home ok.

Trice I always read it as partly Luke's judgement on Dean's inconsistency and making decisions based on something other than what was true on the deepest level or following through on the decisions he made - Dean married Lindsey even though he was still in love with (or was at least still infatuated with) Rory. Then he got divorced from Lindsey for the same reasons (still in love with Rory and seriously immature in how he was dealing with relationships with both girls). I saw it as Luke doubting whether Dean was worthy of Rory's trust, especially so soon after splitting from Lindsey.

On the show Luke says he doesn't think Dean is good enough for Rory and that seems to be the line the writers took through the other interactions between the 2, but to me, it seemed to be a disagreement based on other issues at least initially.

Kara | 4 comments What do you think of the exchange between the two at the Twickham house renovation?

Trice some of that and Luke's 'she deserves a prince' remark seemed like some inconsistency in the writing and some Logan foreshadowing, along with a way to focus on Luke's insecurities.

Sammy Young (darcyalcottpotter) Luke's distaste for Dean in the Bop-it episode stems from the fact that Rory is basically (in Luke's eyes) Lukes daughter and so naturally no guy will ever be good enough which makes matters bad enough to start off with. But then she starts dating a guy (Dean) who break up with Rory in front of the whole town, who married someone whilst being in love with someone else, cheated on his wife and who lets be honest had no respect for Rory. And then at the Twickham House Dean is frustrated by Luke and Lorelai's continuing relationship after his and Rory's has finished. He's convinced that it's just a Gilmore thing to break hearts so to say. And so the two are easily frustrated by one another.
