Jonathan Lopez | 4726 comments Glad you liked it, Janine! I was a little concerned the whole concept of the shebang would be inaccessible or remote for people who weren't around in the '70s, but I guess you've seen TV shows and movies, etc., so you're probably familiar with the general atmosphere.

I've been listening to everybody's shebangs, and I'm really enjoying them a lot. So far I've played Janine's, Misha's (2x), and mini-Gail's. It's great stuff, and I will report back in more detail soon...when I have a little more time.

Emily E (emily_e1) | 1032 comments So excited to get my package (hopefully somewhere with a kangaroo by now), I can't wait to join in on the listening fun!

I've been listening to mini-Gail's shebang in the car. I like it a lot! My favorite choices are probably The Heavy's "Short Change Her..."

MM was pretty please you recognized the Borderlands2 theme song. As a female "gamer" she is a little on her own amongst her peers. Especially since she goes to an all girls school. :)

Really don't worry about any $#%! Words. She is learning to drive now and has to negotiate a six lane road to get to school. She needs a few nicely chosen words up her sleeve! :)

Susan | 6406 comments Honest to goodness, I heart mini Gail to the moon.

message 205: by [deleted user] (new)

She is pretty awesome if I do say so myself Susan. :)

message 206: by Susan (new)

Susan | 6406 comments Well, considering her mom, it really is no wonder. :)

message 207: by [deleted user] (new)

I am just going out to check my mail box. The postman should have been by now.

message 208: by janine (new)

janine | 7709 comments My second shebang was mini-Gail's. Some of these songs I remember from when I was a teenager. My sister (she's 3 years younger than me) bought that Maroon 5 album when we were on vacation in Germany and she also owned a couple of Green Day albums (including a very green one). I'm pretty sure I saw the video for the My Chemical Romance song on MTV2 (UK), we were crazy about that channel for a while. I also like the The Heavy and Lady Gaga songs.

message 209: by janine (new)

janine | 7709 comments I have listened to Smetchie's Home shebang. Favourites are The Mountain, Home & Rockin' Chair. Also Misha's Dance party one, which is an excellent excuse to do some living room dancing. I will also never not love Such Great Heights.

message 210: by smetchie (new)

smetchie | 4034 comments Barb and I both put BOY on our shebangs. ;) great minds and all....

message 211: by [deleted user] (new)

Yay! I have my hands on a shebang package! Woot!

Dang it! The parcel belongs to MC and she is not coming home until late tonight, and will be out all day tomorrow from 7:30am. WAHAHAHAH. :'''((

Emily E (emily_e1) | 1032 comments Glad you're enjoying it Barb :) I had great fun making it!

Oh my dog! They're really here!!

message 214: by [deleted user] (new)

Hello! This is mini-Cyborg, and mum and I just received all of our wonderful shebangs. I am looking forward to listening to all of them and am pleased to report that some of the songs are ones that I have been meaning to get for a while, (and now have for free... Mwahahaha) thank you all :D

Yay mini-Cyborg! And I hope you find lots of extra songs you didn't even know you want ;)

message 216: by Susan (new)

Susan | 6406 comments The very best part.

She only had time to glance at the song lists last night. I have no doubt she will realise the full awesomeness of participating, when she gets home this afternoon.

smetchie | 4034 comments The very very best part.

message 219: by smetchie (new)

smetchie | 4034 comments Heidi!! OMFG! I love your shebang sooo much. SO MUCH!! It's all romantic and pretty and I like all the songs. There are definitely quite a few I'd never heard of, as usual with your shebangs, and the whole thing is going into my itunes as a playlist.

xoxox

message 220: by smetchie (new)

smetchie | 4034 comments Barb I love track 2 on your peacock shebang. It's my favorite. Keep You - Wild Belle. I also like Radiator Blues.

message 221: by Emily (new)

Emily E (emily_e1) | 1032 comments So far I have listened to Barb's Stubborn Non-themey Shebang and Janine's That's a Pretty Good Love and I am thoroughly enjoying myself!

I had a couple of other sneak peeks on the weekend, but didn't have time to listen to them in full. Now I can enjoy them properly on the travels to work.

Anywho, more detail to come later... So much fun :)

message 222: by Emily (new)

Emily E (emily_e1) | 1032 comments Let's start with Barb - I absolutely loved this playlist! I got four songs in and knew it would be nearly impossible to identify my highlights because I was enjoying every song so much.

This mix just made me want to sing along, which I did (a lot) even before I know the words. It was a great relief when I got to song #5 (Lonely Boy - The Black Keys) and I could actually sing along with the lyrics ;)

I liked that a lot of the songs were very powerful - they make you stand up straight and tall as you tap out the beat.

So, my best effort at todays highlights (I expect this to change every time I listen to it!)
* On The Radio - Regina Spektor
* Keep You - Wild Belle
* Move Like U Stole It - ZZ Ward
* Weary Blues - Madeleine Peyroux
* Boris - Boy
* Smoke Baby - Hawksley Workmen
* Daredevil - Fiona Apple (Hey, she's on my angsty playlist too!)

Also, thanks for the liner notes. I have read all the liner notes that were included and I really enjoy having them, they make all your playlists so much more you :)

message 223: by Emily (new)

Emily E (emily_e1) | 1032 comments Next up, Janine - I really enjoyed this playlist as well!

I love that you mix in Nederlander songs alongside English ones. Mr Em also likes seeing a couple of Dutch artists he knows in your playlist, he hasn't had a chance to listen yet but I'll get a lot more of the translations when he does :)

This was over all a more laid back playlist, I felt very relaxed listening to it. I want to play it on a Sunday with my shoes off and a glass of Grand Marnier.

Some of my highlights included:
* Bon Vivant - Master and Mississippi
* You Ain't Nothing But Trouble - Christine Kitrell
* That's A Pretty Good Love - Big Maybelle
* Simple Song - The Shins
* Foundation - Kate Nash
* I'll Take Care Of You - Gil Scott-Heron

I also really liked that you had some old-school bands on there - The Ramones, The Kinks, Velvet Underground, New York Dolls... nice :)

What!?!?!?!? New York Dolls?

message 225: by Susan (new)

Susan | 6406 comments Yeah. She is a cool one, that J9.

message 226: by [deleted user] (new)

She may have a future.

I stole a song from the Motor City Mix you sent me a few years ago.

message 228: by [deleted user] (new)

Which one?

message 229: by janine (new)

janine | 7709 comments Better Than You

message 230: by Emily (new)

Emily E (emily_e1) | 1032 comments I have been sneaking in some more shebang listening but a little to sleepy to tell you all how wonderful you are! Still a couple which are unheard, I'm looking forward to more new tunes soon :)

message 231: by smetchie (new)

smetchie | 4034 comments Heidi, have I told you how much I love Pearl's a singer? My daughter's middle name is Pearl and she likes to sing along with it.

That's so sweet! It is a beautiful song, I'll think of your very own Pearl every time I hear it from now on :)

message 233: by Emily (new)

Emily E (emily_e1) | 1032 comments Peoples be warned: I am feeling happy. I have a Time Out from Febfast and I am putting you all in my iTunes. This is likely to result in reviews until I cannot review no more ;)

message 234: by Emily (last edited Feb 21, 2014 02:30AM) (new)

Emily E (emily_e1) | 1032 comments So I'm starting with Misha and her polar opposite double act.

The 'FeelGoodDanceParty' - lots of fun! Mr Em also really enjoyed this, he recognised most of the songs and found the 80s additions "comforting".

Personal highlights:
* Beautiful Day - U2 (This reminds me of a very specific time in my life, when Mr Em and I were first living together in a four bedroom shared house and summer months - good times!)
* F**k You - Cee Lo Green (always an enjoyable tune)
* Shake It Out - Florence and The Machine
* Can't Hold Us - Macklemore & Ryan Lewis
* Such Great Heights - The Postal Service (I have a cover by Ben Folds on my Like a Version shebang)
Lust for Life - Iggy Pop (Iggy - always awesome! Plus for the Aussies in the audience, the Rage anthem ;) )

message 235: by Emily (new)

Emily E (emily_e1) | 1032 comments Ah, the beautiful melancholy bitter-sweet Songs For A Winter's Night. Guaranteed to sooth a battered soul.

I listened to this in the hopes of chilling out a hideous, smoke filled heat wave and found that it is more than the season. It was like a hug when you're fragile and down, whatever the weather.

Highlights:
* Sour Times - Portishead (great joy hearing this, it almost could of been on my angsty mix)
* The Winter Song - Eisley (great intro!)
* Shadow on the Wall - Brandi Carlile
* Wild is the Wind - Nina Simone (she is always amazing)

message 236: by Emily (new)

Emily E (emily_e1) | 1032 comments Mini- Gail!

Yay, so glad you played in this shebang round. I hope you've found lots of new songs for your walk to the bus stop. And thank you so much for the liner notes to go along with this mix :)

Lots of fun, and a theatrical bend that I enjoyed. If Gail hasn't taken you to any musical theatre events yet I think you should definitely check some out, I'm sure you'll love them!

Some highlights for me:
* Short Change Hero - The Heavy
* I Don't Care - Fall Out Boy
* This Love - Maroon 5
* Americano - Lady Gaga (fun!)
* You're Gonna Go Far Kid - Offspring

By the by - listen to Hey Boys and Girls while watching the scene from Singing In The Rain where Cosmo and Don are practicing their diction - spooky how perfect a backdrop it is to their dance moves ;)

message 237: by Emily (new)

Emily E (emily_e1) | 1032 comments FebFast Time Out is needing more attention (which leads to less coherence) so my other three lovelies will have to wait for a new day to be told how I love you and your music. Which I do.

So sweet dreams to all, and special hugs to our host. Catch you all on the flip side :)

message 238: by [deleted user] (new)

Yay for Febfast TimeOuts! :)

message 239: by Emily (new)

Emily E (emily_e1) | 1032 comments Time outs are good, but they lead to a heavy head in the morning ;)

message 240: by smetchie (new)

smetchie | 4034 comments Is a Febfast TimeOut something to do with drinking?

message 241: by Emily (new)

Emily E (emily_e1) | 1032 comments Surprisingly yes! Febfast is an event to raise money for families or young people suffering from addiction. You either give up drinking or sugar/caffeine depending on your weaknesses.

message 242: by smetchie (new)

smetchie | 4034 comments Ahhhhh!!! I could NEVER give up my vices in February!!!! But that's because it's dead of winter here. I could do it in Australia.

message 243: by Emily (new)

Emily E (emily_e1) | 1032 comments It's also the shortest month which helps ;)

message 244: by [deleted user] (new)

Emily wrote: "Surprisingly yes! Febfast is an event to raise money for families or young people suffering from addiction. You either give up drinking or sugar/caffeine depending on your weaknesses."

I heard a little about it on the radio one day, I thought you had to give up everything for the entire month, including electronic gadgets. I obviously wasn't paying enough attention.

message 245: by Emily (new)

Emily E (emily_e1) | 1032 comments Giving up booze is more than enough! If I had to quit caffeine and the digital world too I may hurt someone...

message 246: by Emily (new)

Emily E (emily_e1) | 1032 comments Barb's shebang is helping me clean :)

message 247: by Emily (new)

Emily E (emily_e1) | 1032 comments So far they've done a good job. Now let's see how much I can get done with Jonathan's Auditory Hallucination...

message 248: by [deleted user] (new)

Gee I hope Barbs CD has a similar effect on mini-cyborg. :)

Good luck! How is she liking the tunes so far?

message 250: by [deleted user] (new)

Unfortunately the Shegangs arrived after school started back, she has just started year 11 (second last year of high school), so is completely snowed under with work. She has chosen yours to start listening to first Emily. The title "songs of an angsty youth", appealed to her. :) On the days she has to be dropped early to school, she has been listening to it. She loves the first song by the violent femmes, hasn't made any real comments other than that so far.
