Adam Bolander | 11 comments Does anybody know of any good fiction writing contests? I'm trying to think of ways to get my name out there, and people have told me that writing contests are a good way to do that. Since I'm low on money, I'd prefer ones that either don't charge more than $20 to enter, or don't have an entry fee at all. Got any suggestions?

L I would type into 'Google' (or any search engine) writing contest & the date.

I have managed to find a few free ones which have been excellent writing practice, and a great challenge to have a go at. x

Jenelle I recommend the ABNA (amazon breakthrough novel award).

It's free. (Book has to be between 50k - 150k words) The contest usually starts in January, and they accept the first 10,000 entries (or less, if they don't get that many entries during the 2-3 week submission window).

Gin Oliver (gin_oliver) Just checked out the Richard and Judy comp - deadline's the 1st January 2014.

Bloomsbury Writers & Artists also have a short story comp running (deadline I think is the 14th or 15th of February).

Links to both below . . .
