Andrea Waltz (andreawaltz) | 3 comments I got some good advice about using goodreads - one suggestion was Listopia. I am confused.
Am I supposed to be creating lists (and including MY book?)
Am I supposed to be adding MY book into other lists?

I just don't get it. Any help/advice?

Sherrie | 25 comments Basically go to Explore, Listopia, Create a List and add your books. Then when people are searching for books to read yours will come up as well.

Nancy Glynn (nancyglynn) | 59 comments I've added my own book to a couple of lists that pertain to my genre, so now it'll show up there with one vote, lol. I read to do that by the Kindle Bible author.

A.P. Jensen (authorapj) You can create a very specific list for Listopia like "jealous boyfriend" and add all books that apply. Some lists are more broad like "2015 YA Fantasy Releases". I don't think it's for authors to put our own books because you have to rate a book to put it on Listopia. You want other readers to add it to existing lists for you. I hope this helped. I use Listopia myself when I want a certain type of book and it always gives me ideas!

Thanks for making it clearer!

Christine PNW (moonlight_reader) | 2 comments Listopia is really a tool for readers not authors, and manipulation of listopia lists is a source of frustration for many readers. There are multiple threads on the subject on the feedback forums:

Listopia: Can I suggest my own book

Listopia: Rules Spamming

Justin (justinbienvenue) | 2274 comments Listopia is like everyone said. You make a list of books you've read or written into genres or topics of that nature so its easier for people to find books to read.

I will say be careful though, I once made a list but goodness was glitchy that day and only added my book. Of course I planned on adding more within the genre but not before a woman accused me of making a list solely to promote my book. Once goodreads was working properly again I added a bunch of the scheduled books I planned on adding and oddly enough the woman deleted her comments.

But yes, Listopia is fun, creative and gives a unique way for readers to find multiple books within the same genres or topics. An underrated tool in my opinion.

I agree with your assessment. Interestingly, I'm just catching up with this thread and thought to myself, "Adding my book to well-targeted lists might increase my exposure!" So I did it (before reading your post, I might add). Afterwards, I noticed that books were sorted by "Score" which is defined as follows:

"A book’s total score is based on multiple factors, including the number of people who have voted for it and how highly those voters ranked the book."

Then I realized that I hadn't ranked my own book (because I don't believe authors should rank their own work) so my score would be very low. So... I concluded that if authors shouldn't rank their books, they probably shouldn't add them to Listopia.

Reading your post confirmed my suspicions, so I have removed my book's entry from the list.
