Grace smiled up at him. "Yea, maybe." she said happily, though she had a feeling they would never reach that point. She made a mental note to find that box, however, and relive all the plans they had made for their lives since they were little kids. She let go of his hand when their food came, picking up her fork and poking it through a piece of pineapple. She frowned a little when he mentioned sneaking into her room. "You don't need to sneak around, Wyatt. You're my boyfriend. My dad is just going to have to get over it. I'm an adult, I can make my own decisions." she said and shook her head a little.

Sofia giggled a little. "An hour ? Not a chance, Jake. Kyle will be here in an hour." she said softly and kissed his nose, then each of his cheeks. "I'm going to go get in the shower. You better be awake when I get back, okay?" she warned, finally climbing out of bed and making her way to their bathroom. She started the shower and stepped in, sighing as the warm water ran over her skin. Her back ached after the rough night, and her feet felt swollen already. She had dreaded this day for so long, and now that it was here it felt so surreal. She couldn't really understand how awful it would feel to say goodbye to Jake until it actually happened.
Joelle looked at him with a smile and said," Hi." She replied then giggled," I slept fine and I have no clue how long you've been asleep because I woke up like maybe half an hour ago?" She replied with a little shrug. "Did you sleep alright in that chair?" She asked stretching a little bit herself but it was more of a careful movement of her body just to see if everything was still hurting as bad as it had been that morning
Wyatt smiled a little bit," Maybe but you never know we might get to go there." He answered pulling his hand back so he could eat some of his own food when it got there. Of course Wyatt made sure that Grace was eating too. " well I mean I won't if you don't want me to but I figured if your dad thought I left before you went to bed then he would be less likely to walk into your room to see me there." He reasoned softly as he are a little bit
Jake smiled a little bit and looked down at her," Yes an hour." He replied," Kyle can wait the day can wait an hour to get started." He told her nuzzling into her neck gently. He sighed and let her go," alright fine I'll get up." He said watching as she walked into their bathroom before getting up to join her. "Hey Sof can I come in?" He asked. It wasn't very often that Jake asked or even thought of getting in the shower with Sofia but today was going to be hard on all of them and he wanted to spend as much time he could with his fiancé before everything started
Brody stretched out as well, yawning as he sat up. "I slept great, actually. A lot better than in that bed." he admitted and chuckled. "How are you feeling?" he wondered, noticing that she was moving around a little more. He pressed the button on her bed to turn the lights on to the dimmest setting, not wanting to get up to turn them on or open the curtains.
Grace ate her fruit, and it was surprisingly not as hard as she'd thought it would be. She sighed and shook her head a little at Wyatt's reply. "It's not that it wouldn't be easier; it probably would. But you don't deserve that. You are my boyfriend, and my boyfriend shouldn't have to sneak around own house like some kind of criminal. It's not like your a secret or anything." she said and shook her head a little. She had considered moving out of her parents house, but hadn't thought it was the right time with her health issues. Now she wasn't so sure.
Sofia looked toward the door, surprised that he would even ask to join her. She smiled a little, though, glad that he had. "Sure, honey. You can come in." she said softly and pushed the shower door open a little so it would be easier for him to get in. "I thought for sure you would go back to sleep." she admitted with a soft laugh as he joined her in the steamy shower.
Joelle nodded a little bit and then said," I'm felling a lot better but it still hurts to move my legs around." She replied looking over at him glad he hadn't turned the lights on all the way yet she wasn't ready for that. Joelle sighed softly and then sat up a little bit," what time is it?" She asked.. "I feel like it should be like 10 in the morning still." She muttered
Wyatt continued to eat and then nodded a little bit," well yeah it would be and I know I'm not a secret to you I just think that it might be easier on you with all of this." He replied thoughtfully. "What does your dad not like about me?" He asked." I never really got why he didn't like me so much." Wyatt commented
Jake opened the shower door and then stepped into the shower with her and nodded," Yeah well I thought about it but then I decided I slept enough for the time being." He replied reaching out and tugging on her wet hair gently. He sighed softly and slipped his arms around her for a second before pulling away again to clean himself up
Brody chuckled, shaking his head. "No such luck. It's almost 3." He told her as he checked his phone for the time. "You'll probably be sore for a while. As long as it keeps getting better, we are headed in the right direction." He said with a smile and winked at her. "Are you hungry? We haven't eaten anything for lunch."
Grace signed and shrugged, looking down into her smoothie as she sipped from her straw. "I don't know, Wyatt. Maybe. I just don't want you to have to do that." She said softly. It would be easier if she didn't have to fight with her father all the time, but it just gave her a sick feeling to think that Wyatt would have to sneak into her house. "It's not that he doesn't like you, per say. He just doesn't like boys." She said and rolled her eyes. "He never approved of you being my best friend because he wanted me to have a girl best friend." She explained softly and shrugged, feeling dumb even saying it.
Joelle laughed a little bit and looked over at him," Yeah I figured that out." She replied giggling a little bit as he told her the time. She sighed," Yeah I guess so I just don't know if I want to stay here or at my house when I can get out of here." She replied. Joelle shrugged," Yeah I'm actually kind of hungry but I also have to go to the bathroom so what happens with that?" She asked looking back over at Brody.
Sofia sighed as well and leaned back against him, tilting her head to kiss his jaw gently. "Do you want some help?" She wondered as he started washing his hair, turning around to run her own fingers through his soapy hair. He looked just as exhausted as she felt, though she knew she had watched him sleep while she was awake. "You're extra cute when you're wet." She noted with a small smirk.
Brody blushed a little when he thought about that question- and blushing isn't something that Brody ever did. "Um, let me go get a nurse for you. I think they're supposed to be here if you decide to get up." He mumbled and got up, squeezing her hand gently before walking out of the room. He came back with a nurse, still looking awkward. "Why don't I go pick us up something to eat and bring it back here? It has to be better than this hospital food." He suggested.
Wyatt nodded," Okay well we will see how it goes your way for a little while and count how many times your dad tries to pick a fight with me and then we will try my way if it gets too much for you how's that?" He asked then finished off the rest of his breakfast. "Okay so then now you can tell him I'm not your best friend anymore." He said with a grin. Even though he was still her best friend maybe her dad would lay off them for a little while
Jake smiled a little bit," What are you doing practicing on me for when you have Kaden?" He teased her softly but didn't object to her washing his hair. "Well thanks." He replied," You don't look too bad yourself." Jake always thought that Sofia looked great no matter what. But he was tired and just wanted to stay home with her for the rest of his life and not have to go through months of not seeing her at all
Grace couldn't help but laugh as she picked at the last few pieces of fruit, really not hungry enough to eat them anymore. "Okay, sounds like a plan." She said and looked up at him with a sweet smile. "And I'm going to tell him you're my boyfriend. I still don't think he will approve of you sleeping in my bed, but it might change his views a little." She said thoughtfully and shrugged a little, finishing her shake. "We should probably get going soon." She said with a glance at the time.
Joelle nodded a little bit," Okay then.. I'll wait here." She replied making her bed sit up as she waited for him to come back with a nurse to help her. She moved a little bit so she was closer to the edge of the bed. "Okay you can get whatever you want you know what I get at most places we like to go." She replied
Sofia laughed a little. "Well I wasn't thinking of it that way, but I guess so." she said with a small smile. She frowned a little when she looked up at his face, rinsing the shampoo out of his hair. It was like he was already mourning their separation "Hey, I'm still right here, Jake. Don't leave me yet." she said softly and reached up to rest her hand on his cheek. She placed a slow, gentle kiss on his lips before pulling away slowly. "You're in the shower with your almost wife. You're supposed to be happy." she scolded him with a forced smile, turning her back to him again to finish washing herself.
Brody nodded and gave her a little wave. "Okay, Jo. Just call me if you need anything." he told her as the nurse entered the room. He hesitated as she close the door, not very keen on leaving her there alone even though she was being taken care of. He shook his head a little and walked to the elevator, wanting to just get back as soon as possible.
Wyatt chuckled softly," I don't think that he would approve even if I wasn't your best friend for all these years." He replied pushing his plate away to get his smoothie. He shifts a little bit and went to take a piece of her fruit as she was playing with it. He smiled at her and finished his smoothing after eating the piece of fruit
"Probably not." she agreed, taking some cash out of her wallet and laying it on the table for their meal. They had decided a long time ago that they would just take turns paying for everything, since they had always ended up arguing over who would pay for it. It was her turn today. "Almost done?" she asked playfully as he sucked the very last bit of smoothie out of the glass, the straw making a loud slurping noise as he did.
Jake smkled a little distractedly. He looking back down at her as he felt her fingers leave his hair and rest on his cheek," Yeah I'm sorry I was just thinking." He said softly kissing her back gently before reaching to rinse the rest of the soap out of his hair and then went to wash his body. Jake grinned slightly. "Yeah that's true and I am happy just a little distracted." He replied softly leaning over and kissing her cheek gently.
Joelle smiled and nodded," Okay I will." She replied waving a little at him as she let the nurse help her get up. She was a little wobbly on her feet and she was weak but she really needed to use the restroom so she went with the nurses help and then got back into bed already tired out just by walking the few feet it was to the bathroom and back. She closed her eyes as the nurse had told her to put the mask back on for a little while
Sofia sighed, rinsing off her body and standing out of the way so he could finish. "That's understandable, babe. And I know we've probably said everything we can say a million times, but you know you can still talk to me if you need to." she said softly with a slightly shy, earnest expression on her face as she watched him finish with his shower. She stepped out of the shower, shivering a little from the cold blast of air before starting to dry off.
Wyatt watched as she paid for everything and he shook his head," no not this time Gracie." He told her," I are like twice as much as you and I'll let you pay next time we come here but it's like our first sort of date-ish outing." He said then chuckled softly," yeah I'm done now."He told her putting the money back in her hand and then paying with his own." You can only leave the tip." He stated to her just being stubborn for that one time. Any other time they were out he just went with the flow with their agreement
Brody returned about twenty minutes later, a bag from their favorite burger place in his hand. "I got you some lemonade. I didn't think they would like you having soda right now, but I know you didn't want water." he said and chuckled a little, taking the food out and setting it on one of the countertops.
Grace frowned a little when he picked her money back up, but just shrugged and decided not to argue with him about it. It was kind of a date, after all, so it should be different than what they usually did. She left a few dollars for the tip and slid out of the booth, taking Wyatt's hand as he stood up as well. "Well thank you for breakfast then." she said with a cute smile and reached up to kiss his cheek.
Jake nodded a little letting the water rinse off the soap on his body," I know Sofia I know and it's not that I don't want to talk to you I just don't know what to say anymore." He replied turning the water off after looking at her for a long time. He got out if the shower after her and dried off his body not even needing to think about what to wear that day but not sure of he should put all of it on yet or not. He looked back at Sofia," All I can think to say to you is I love you and I will miss you so much."
Joelle smiled and pulled the mask away from her face and nodded," Yes good food that is bad for me but I don't care and you are the bestest friend ever." She said with a smile as she looked at him. "It's not one of our normal picnics but it sure will work for me." She commented with a smile now feeling a lot better than she had been earlier
Wyatt looked at her knowing she was wanting to argue with her then she didn't and he smiled at her," Thanks for not fighting with me about that one." He said softly as he got up and squeezed her fingers gently," alright then let's go." He replied," And you're welcome." He said with a smile and he leaned over at kissed her head softly before opening the doors for her as they walked back out to his car
"I know, baby. I love you, too." Sofia murmured and looked over at him, wishing there was something she could say to make him feel better. She left him in the bathroom for a moment to change into her clothes, the silence weighing heavily between them. She loved Jake so much, and it hurt her to see him so distraught. But there was really nothing she could do right now, so she focused on just not making it worse. She changed into a pair of red shorts and a white tee shirt, going for an American-colored look to send her man off to fight for their country. She brushed her hair quietly in the vanity mirror, trying her best to hold back the tears and the worries that threaten to overwhelm her until Jake was gone and couldn't see them.
Brody smiled back at her, in a much better mood now that he had gotten out for a little while and that Joelle seemed to be happier. "Well you need good food or you won't want to eat a lot, which is not what they want. So in a way, I'm just helping the doctors." he teased and shrugged, a crooked smile on his face as he helped spread her food out on the bed table. "There are worse rules to break."
"You're welcome. I figured since it was a date, my boyfriend should pay for my food." Grace said with a smile, emphasizing the word and giggling a little. Wyatt was always a gentleman, and she knew he didn't like it when she paid for things. But they went places together way too often for her to let him pay for everything like he wanted to. She sighed softly as she settled back into the car and buckled her seatbelt, the nerves starting to come back now that she wasn't distracted anymore.
Jake smiled halfheartedly at her and went to go her dressed in part of his uniform. He sighed softly and just went back to comb his hair so it didn't look like he had just gotten out of bed or anything when he left. He didn't want to be so upset but it was hard when he was leaving at a time where he really just wanted to be around with his fiancé getting ready for their wedding and for when Kaden would get here. He glanced over at her and then couldn't help himself as he wrapped his arms around her tightly.
Joelle giggled softly and nodded," Yeah so they can't get mad at you for feeding me." She replied happily. She was in a much better mood now the nurse on duty was really nice and wasn't overly happy but was someone kind of in a way like Brody. She smiled," thanks for getting us dinner." She said looking at her best friend
"No you wanted to pay because it is your turn." He replied laughing softly as he opened the car door for her. He walked around to his side and got in and started his car. Wyatt glanced over at her and smiled slightly," it's going to be fine Gracie. I'm not going to leave your side the entire time you are there." He told her reaching over and holding her had while he drove to the hospital.
Sofia hugged him back just as tightly, squeezing her eyes shut. Last night had been so perfect; she thought she had come to terms with him leaving and would be at peace with it. But she wasn't. She wasn't ready for him to leave. There were so many things that could happen, and there were so many reasons why they should be together right now instead of hundreds of miles apart. "I should have married you." she whispered, her heart breaking even as she said the words. She should have married him when he asked her to and not been so stubborn. Not only so he wouldn't be sent so far, but so there would be that permanent connection binding them while he was so far away. She felt like she was losing him.
Brody smiled back at her. "You're very welcome. I'm just glad this junk food seems to have cheered you up." he teased playfully and took a big bite out of his burger. "Mm, I didn't realize how hungry I was until I got this stuff in the car and started smelling it." he joked.
Grace gave him small smile before turning her head to look out the window as they drove. "I know you won't. I'm not worried about that, trust me." she said and laughed slightly, giving his hand a reassuring squeeze. She didn't really know what she was nervous about, to be honest, because all of this was so unknown. Would it hurt? Would it be scary? How long would it take?
Jake frowned a little bit and just held her close to him. He didn't want to leave her anymore than she wanted him to leave but now it was too late to do anything about it and he was hoping that he would be able to do all of this without making it harder on either of them but he just couldn't pretend anymore
"Don't say that please?" Jake whispered. "I can't think of what could have been if you wanted that." He said softly hugging her tight again," I just cant."
Joelle laughed as she took a few French fries and ate them," yeah but I'm always in a better mood when there is food around." She replied after chewing. But really she was a lot happier right then
Wyatt nodded," Well okay as long as you don't worry about it at all ill be there with you." He replied as he looked at the road as he pulled in to the hospital," maybe they will explain everything to you before everything starts happening." He suggested softly
Sofia moaned and pulled him closer, gripping his tan cotton shirt in her hands. She just didn't know what to do. There was nothing to say to make either of them feel better, but it was so painful to just stand there thinking about what they were going to do. She reached up suddenly and kissed him deeply, locking her arms around his neck. "I love you so much." She whispered against his lips, running her fingers over his cheek lightly.
Brody laughed, shaking his head playfully. "I've noticed." He teased, enjoying his food as well. "Did the nurse or doctors say anything while I was gone?" He wondered curiouslyz
Grace shrugged. "Yea, maybe they will." She murmured as they pulled in. She took a deep breath before getting out of the car, grabbing her bag from the backseat. She took his hand lightly as they walked inside, not really feeling like talking just then. They checked in and she was given a stack of paperwork to fill out. "Told you." She murmured with a smirk a they sat down so she could fill them out.
Jake kept his head bent close to hers as he stood there holding her tightly. He didn't want to let her go or anything. Each time he thought of going to finish getting ready to let her go he thought better of it. He sighed softly and just continued to hold her until she started to move. He looked down at her and was a little surprise by her kiss but he welcomed it more or less. He nodded," and I love you too Sofia." He said softly," more than you know."
