Rachel (raeleighreads) Hi, I'm Rachel!

I recently started a book review blog. I read pretty much anything but erotica or trashy romance novels (not my cup of tea). Please check out my blog. I would appreciate any tips, book recommendations, or follows :)

Sophie Wallace (librarypumpkin) | 3 comments Hi, I'm Sophie, I'm a newbie book blogger who is looking to find some friends!! ;) I've been blogging about all sorts of random stuff for the past couple of months, but have launched a rebrand today where I'm only focusing on my love of books.

My blog is librarypumpkin - feedback or friendly comments welcome! :)

Hiya!

I started with my little blog because I have an obsession with books and my friends don't so it is like talking to a wall lol. So now I can ramble to other bookies that are interested!

Erin Burns | 5 comments Hi! I'm Erin, and I blog at Burns through her Bookshelf http://erinsburnsbookshelf.blogspot.com

Yes, the title is weird, but my last name actually is Burns so this is a classic example of me and creativity at odds. I'm looking forward to being more sociable with people who are passionate about books. I mostly do romance of all genres (except time travel) and the occasional science fiction book.

message 208: by Alan (new)

Alan Black | 5 comments Erin, Social can be a good thing, but most of us aren't very good at it, especially us author types.

I looked at your blog. I liked the review on Mad Max. I have to admit you see a lot more depth than I do. I'm like 'yeah! stuff blowing up!' But then, I'm a guy so what else can you expect.

I think a little romance peeks out in every genre or the story doesn't really ring true. I think of old WWII movies that just had men in the cast, yet someone always talked about his girlfriend or had a letter from his wife. That isn't anything more than 2nd hand romance, right?

Thanks for checking out my blog. And I don't know if it's so much that I saw depth as I felt the absence of things that usually irk the hell out of me, the things that usually take me out of the story. I was immersed, so afterwards I was able to analyze why that was.

I don't think it's always got to be romance though. It's about relationships and emotions, and romance has tended to be the short hand for other emotions IYSWIM.

message 210: by Alan (new)

Alan Black | 5 comments Isn't romance about relationships, bonds and human connections? Consider the bromance. It's intention isn't sexual or designed to develop into an exclusive pairing. Or am I looking at the romance genre wrong?

Erin Burns | 5 comments Alan wrote: "Isn't romance about relationships, bonds and human connections? Consider the bromance. It's intention isn't sexual or designed to develop into an exclusive pairing. Or am I looking at the romance g..."

It is, but all good stories are about the relationships, romance or not. And books that want to skimp on developing those relationships tend to, in my opinion, throw in a reference to a romance (if not having an actual one) as a short cut to showing thise human connections and humanizing their characters. The thing about romance as a genre is the specific convention of having that happily ever after pairing or pairings and that the story IS the relationship, whatever other plots may be involved. And woe betide the romance author who messes with that convention. See the JR Ward controversy as an example.

message 212: by Alan (new)

Alan Black | 5 comments Thanks. That gives me more info than I had before about Romance novels. I don't do romance novels; just not that type of a storyteller, I guess.

B. Wilson (bjameswilson) | 3 comments Hello Goodreads Book Bloggers, I'm so pleased to be a part of the group. My name is Bruce, I write under the names, B. James Wilson, B. J. Wilson and J. W Bruce. I am preparing to launch my third novel on July 1st. All three were self published in most digital formats. As I pursue this launch, I am finishing up the edit of my fourth novel, doing a revision of my second, working first draft on two new novels and banging out some short stories, just to fill in.
My interest in the group is to find some supportive reviews/blogs for my work and to provide the same for others. I look forward to working with you.

message 222: by [deleted user] (new)

Hello fellow book bloggers. I'm the owner/writer/book reviewer for the blog, On My Kindle.

If you look at my older reviews, you will see that I used to write reviews for compensation. When I lost my job due to absences related to a chronic illness that I have been recently diagnosed with, I started looking for ways to supplement my husband's income. I enjoyed reading and had experience writing, so reviewing books seemed to be an obvious solution.

Long story short, I found out that what I was doing was unethical and against Amazon's and Goodread's TOS. I stopped reviewing books for the agency. I also took deleted the reviews that I wrote for the agency from my Amazon and Goodreads accounts; however I left those reviews on my blog.

I left those reviews on my blog for a couple of reasons:

1. I read those books, and worked really hard to write honest reviews for them.

2. I own my mistakes; I don't cover them up.

If you want to know more, feel free to visit the About On My Kindle section of the blog.

I will read and review almost anything. I am particularly fond of the science fiction and fantasy genres, but I won't turn my nose up at any good book. I wouldn't mind getting more non-fiction books on the blog; maybe something in the self-help or business development categories.

I am looking forward to getting to know everyone and making some friends.

Hi!
I'm Victoria :)
I joined Goodreads at the beginning of this year purely to use the Reading Challenge in order to keep up with how much I'm reading. Since then, I started rating some of the books I've read and plucked up the courage to actually write some reviews!
I then joined NetGalley in order to receive some free books (first world problems for a bookaholic)! Considering I was pretty much getting rejected because I didn't post reviews often, I started my own blog Bookthusiasm as well as posting on instagram :D

If you could, it would be great if you could follow me. I'm looking to make new friends and if you have any tips I'd be grateful!
