Yay! :)Pg 36: Stele is pronounced "steh-lay"? Does anyone actually pronounce it in their head like that? I feel like most would pronounce is steel or stell. I've always pronounced it steel. Woops.
Pg 76: This stuff is pretty cool but I wish there were more stuff that I didn't already know from reading TID and TMI. Some new information would be pretty nice. It isn't too boring but I feel like it could be more interesting. The little comments from the characters are keeping me amused enough.
Pg 126: I'm finding all the stuff about angels pretty interesting. If I recall correctly we don't get as much information on them as other "creatures." I love these notes. I'm finding Simon's the most amusing, I think.
Pg 198: "I was Marked by a very cute boy with terrible impulse control. I don't remember because I was basically unconscious but everyone was mad at him when I woke up. The end, love Clary." Lol! I love this.
I'm so sorry I'm late!! this buddy read completely slipped my mind! I'll be starting tonight or in the morning!

I always pronounced it as steel as well.
p.56 I'm loving the illustrations! I'm enjoying learning about Shadowhunter life but a lot of it I've read before in the main books, I'm hoping there were will be some new stuff added :)
I am on page 106, and so far the most interesting things is the side notes. Simon has me rolling with laughter.
Is the book good? I want it! But Imma from Slovakia and in my country they have only started translating it. It is supposed to bo done in september :(
It is pretty good, but I'd say it isn't AMAZING. You get to learn more about the universe and you get some amusing humour from the characters. Beware of spoilers for The Mortal Instruments, though, if you haven't finished it.
I just googled some stuff and it seems like if you've read the first 3 you're okay, which makes sense since Clary is still in training.
Opening thoughts: The cover is absolutely stunning along with the little illustastions but Clary's writing is pretty hard to read...
The little bits in between from the characters are pretty funny, I love Jace and Simon's interactions and I think this book is really good for info dumping/reviewing your own knowledge of the Shadowhunter world
Seeing all the marks, like a list of them was awesome! Definitely memorising a few, just to be sentimental ;)
I really loved the Shadowhunter's Life part going from birth to death, I don't know why but it was a nice little insight
I'm going to look on etsy for some of these prints, they're so pretty! I just finished, it's a super fast read! It's actually pretty interesting!
P. 160 I liked the pictures of the marks! I've always been fascinated with them so it was great to see them all drawn out like that :) P. 172. I like the little question and answer bits at the end of each section with Clary, Jace, and Simon bickering and being sarcastic.

Now in its twenty-seventh edition, the Codex covers it all: the history and the laws of our world; how to identify, interact with, and if necessary, kill that world’s many colorful denizens; which end of the stele is the end you write with. No more will your attempt to fight off rogue vampires and warlocks be slowed by the need to answer endless questions from your new recruits: What is a Pyxis? Why don’t we use guns? If I can’t see a warlock’s mark, is there a polite way to ask him where it is? Where do we get all our holy water? Geography, History, Magic, and Zoology textbook all rolled into one, the Codex is here to help new Shadowhunters navigate the beautiful, often brutal world that we inhabit.
Do not let it be said that the Clave is outdated or, as the younger Shadowhunters say, “uncool”: this new edition of the Codex will be available not only in the usual magically-sealed demonskin binding, but also in a smart, modern edition using all of today’s most exciting printing techniques, including such new features as a sturdy clothbound cover, a protective dust jacket, and information about title, author, publisher, and so on conveniently available right on the cover. You’ll be pleased to know that it fits neatly into most satchels, and unlike previous editions, it rarely sets off alarm wards.
The old woodcuts and engravings have been replaced as well: instead, you’ll find lavish modern illustrations by some of the brightest luminaries of the fantastic. Creatures, weapons, people, and places have been carefully and accurately rendered by the likes of Rebecca Guay, Charles Vess, Jim Nelson, Theo Black, Elisabeth Alba, and Cassandra Jean. Chapters are beautifully introduced by the drawings of Michael Kaluta, and along with our condensation of the classic 2,450-page tome, A History of the Nephilim, you will find a selection of the best of the lovely illustrations of that volume by John Dollar.
Rachel and I will be starting August 7th!
