Erika | 4 comments I read Go Set a Watchman as a Bookclub read a few weeks ago. I loved the first third, then struggled to continue as it somehow seemed to lose its flow & got stuck... Ugh, those were a few hard days & I wouldn't have persevered if it hadn't been for Bookclub. I'm glad I did as it came together again... And that's all I'll say as I don't want to spoil it for those who haven't read it yet.

I've yet to read it, but am very much looking forward to it:)

Karen O'Brien-Hall I've read it and my view is that if this was a book presented to me as a novel, by a new writer, I would read it thinking the writer showed promise.
It is not TKAM and if you read it as a sequel you will be disappointed, but as a stand alone novel it is not quite 4 star material. Too much hype surrounded the release and I think anything would be hard pressed to match the hype. There is a wonderful conversation consisting of what Jean hears as she moves from group to group at a morning tea given by her aunt; just brilliant!
Just my 2 cents worth!

Mish | 3601 comments I have just finished Go Set a Watchman and for 80% of the book I was really enjoying it. It felt like I was connecting with long lost friends and they were filling me in on those missing years. Then I got up to the last part, and to be honest it left a bad taste in my mouth. I truly felt uncomfortable.

I think I'm just about at that point. I'm looking at it not as a sequel, but more of a stand alone/companion novel because I don't want it to ruin my memories of TKAM. And I think the way it's written you can do that, you don't have to have read it to understand GSAW.

That's my way of thinking. Watchman didn't change my view on Mockingbird. I loved the book and still do.

What did you think of the first part Cataluna? Did you enjoy it?

I've enjoyed what I've read so far, I like the set up and Jean Louise looking back on her childhood. It's always lovely to revisit characters. I enjoy Lee's writing, I can almost feel that oppressive heat. After the courthouse meeting I'm ready for some answers - that's for sure.

I'm so glad. I enjoyed it for the same reasons and had a few laughs here and there with Jean Louise. She's such a lovely character :)

Ashley Capes | 226 comments Ace, thanks everyone, big help to hear how you're experiencing it.

I think I won't read it after all - but not to worry, plenty of other great reads out there for me :)
