The chapters are between 10 and 20 pages so far. They go by fast though. :)

Ismae (view spoiler)[ She was an awesome character, and she really changed throughout the book. My favorite scene in the book was when she met Death face to face, and she realized what it really meant to be Death's Handmaiden. Ismae was loyal to the convent, and when she was given orders to kill Duval and disobeyed them, she still felt guilty over betraying the convent. And that really made me realize just how loyal she was to them. I do wonder if she'll have anything to do with the convent in the other books? (hide spoiler)]

Duval (view spoiler)[ I liked him from the beginning, but I didn't like how he was a little rude to Ismae at first. But his loyalty and love for his younger sisters was so sweet that anytime he did do something that made me mad at him I forgave him for it right after. (hide spoiler)]

Finally finished the book! Sorry it took me so long. :)

(view spoiler)[ I didn't like this one as much as I was hoping. It moved too slowly for me, and I never connected with Ismae as a character. You are right, she did grow a lot throughout the book, and I grew to like her more towards the end, but she still never won me over.

Duval was my favorite character, but he was a little too perfect sometimes. My favorite scene was when he had just been poisoned and was acting a little loopy. It made him seem more human and less perfect. I also liked the Duchess, and the Beast. I really wish they hadn't killed him off.

All in all, it wasn't a bad book, but I wanted something that moved faster and had more action.

Beast (view spoiler)[ Beast didn't die, he's the hero in the next book with Sybella. It does go off like he died, but he's going to be in the next book, Dark Triumph. :) (hide spoiler)]
