There were too many and it was often confusing. This was the reason I gave the book 4 stars instead of 5.
That's why I lowered my rating, too. At times, it got convoluted.
I was really convinced Arno Conklin or Mittel had killed her. Once Arno was ruled out, I knew it was Mittel. Silly me.

It's funny but at the end I was reminded of an Agatha Christie novel. You know when all the cast get together in the sitting room and discuss all the possibilities and finally disclose the real killer:) This book finished a bit like that!
Yeah, Jonathan put a bow on it. And, it was a rather weak structure for Mittel's and Fox/Vaughn's actions.
Yes I agree that there were lots of suspects and that it was confusing at times but that didn't bother me. I don't mind if I don't solve the mystery before it's revealed and as long as I can follow the story then I'm happy.
I didn't mind the fact that there were numerous suspects. I sort of just accepted that it was a conspiracy of Mittle, Conklin, Fox and Eno.I must say that I thought the whole first half of the book was very slow and drawn out. Too much attention of Harry's meltdown and not enough on the investigation into his mother's death. It only got interesting once Pounds was killed - before then it was too much psychobabble and philosophical descriptions of Harry watching traffic jams and seeing a coyote everywhere.
