Erin Balerud | 2 comments -What did you think of the first-person narrative style? Is Rory's humor at odds with the subject matter? Would you have liked to have seen the story from other characters' perspectives?
-Were the characters well-rounded/believable? Were any more or less so than others?
-Did it work as horror/ghost story? Does the humor undercut the horror, and if so, is the effect cathartic or detrimental?
-What did you think of the setting? Did the author depict London in a realistic way? Do you think Rory's Southernness was too pronounced/cartoonish, or was the fish-out-of-water aspect of her character played effectively?
-Was the relationship between Rory and Jerome believable, and did it enrich the plot or was it there because a romance is expected? What do you think of the relationship dynamics between the female friends?
-With any supernatural fiction the supernatural elements generally have to operate by a set of rules to be believable. Do you think Johnson articulated an internal logic in her ghost world, and if so did her rules make sense and were they applied consistently?
