I started this book but I haven't gotten very far yet. I'm only a little bit into the first chapter. I've been so busy the past few days I haven't had much time to read but I think it's interesting so far!

I'm through Part I - 10 chapters

Finnikin(view spoiler)[ I like him. strong but smart, he tries so hard to be good and kind but to be strong and firm. I think he will make a great king...if he is pushed into it. if Balthazar isn't actually alive (hide spoiler)]

Foi(view spoiler)[ I can't believe how awful he is. I'm glad they saved him. but he needs to learn some serious rules before he is with them long (hide spoiler)]

Trevanion(view spoiler)[ I don't blame him for losing hope and not wanting to believe. But can his wife truly be alive. I hope she isn't lying (hide spoiler)]

Evanjalin(view spoiler)[ I can't help but think we're missing something about her. Why is she SO tied to Finnikin. Makes you think they knew each other before. She seems really made about him paying for...uh...companionship...makes me think they were promised or they flirted or..something. something he doesn't remember but she does (hide spoiler)]

I'm finished. I liked the beginning and the end of the book. However, I found the middle kind of boring.

Yeah I did like it! I had a couple of problems that I said in my review but overall I enjoyed it.

I definitely plan to read book 2, even though it's Foi and I wasn't so sure about him, even at the end.

Did it shock you(view spoiler)[ that she was Isaboe? I thought it might be her but then, around 1/2 through the book, I abandoned the idea and was still confused on who she was
I loved that she was secretly hiding - and I love that they were FINALLY together at the end (hide spoiler)]

Behind the gates(view spoiler)[ what happened on the other side of the gates, what they did to the women and young girls. Awful.

I plan to read book 2 also. I'm still not sure about him either. I want to like him but he's done some bad things :/

I was kind of shocked (view spoiler)[I sort of went off and on thinking she was Isaboe. I wasn't really surprised when it happened. It was obvious she was SOMEONE. Them getting together is something I wasn't that crazy about. I'm not big on romance in fantasy though so it's probably just personal preference on my part. (hide spoiler)]

(view spoiler)[I agree. That was something I thought was pretty realistic. I was disgusted but I liked that it was added to make it seem more dark and real. I was surprised when they said that fathers often chose their daughters to die but I understood why they did. (hide spoiler)]
