adding new book cover

Hello. I need help! I have a new cover for my book, and I tried to create an alternate edition with the expectation to combine all of the editions and set the new cover edition as my primary edition. But when I did a new entry for my new cover, leaving out the ASIN, it seems to be treating the new entry as a completely separate book, so I can't combine the editions. What am I doing wrong, and can you fix it please?

It is Prince of Hearts (The Elders and Welders Chronicles #1) by Margaret Foxe
I want the new entry (girl with the glasses on the cover) as the primary edition.

You didn't do anything wrong, a new edition needs always be combined manually with the other editions.
I combined these editions, but a next time, go to the combine page, select the editions that needs to be combined together and click the combine button.
Only you as author can change the primary edition, this is how you need to do that:

To use this feature, go to the edition you wish to set as the default, and click the "edit" link. On the edition's edit page there will be a link on the right side, about mid-way down the page and just before the link to refresh stats, to "Set this book as the primary edition for this work".
