Damla First of all this book is special for me to be a gift from my boy friend. Also expect for this it has effected me because Hermann Hesse's style is really fluent.

withdrawn Many of Hermann Hesse's books are excellent to read. His most famous books, Steppenwolf and The Glass Bead Game, are good reading but I think that the earlier books, such as Under the Wheel or Knulp are more gripping for younger readers. Like Gertrude, the characters grow into their roles, making decisions about their lives which often lead to personal disaster. The clash between the artistic soul and the bourgeois life obviously was of great interest to Hesse as he had to make such a decision in his own life, to be a writer or a book seller.

If your boy friend wants to buy you another book, maybe you could let him know that Narcissus and Goldmund is a great book. In my view, it is Hesse's best writing. It is mature writing without any pretence.

Finally, you should put comments like the one you have written into a Review so that you, and others, can easily access your comments on individual books in the future. Have fun reading.
