I don't remember being as grossed out by the Benny Imura series at all. Not like Gone series. There were some scenes that were just as gruesome as these. Bugs? Gaia and the guy who fell in? ;-)

OK. I caved. I had to finish it; I decided to just skim the really bad parts. The odd thing is that it got way less gory at the point where I gave up. So when I went back into it things weren't so bad.

Final thoughts: (view spoiler)[ Good grief Ilsa Bick has one sick imagination! If that's the apocalypse, then I hope I die straightaway. It was pretty riveting. Definitey kept me hanging on to see what happened next. I think there were too many characters of which to keep track, but then again flipping between Chris, Tom, and Alex was probably pretty smart. What a cliffhanger - although I'm pretty sure Alex is ok. Or as OK as anyone gets in this story! (hide spoiler)]

That was awesome Karen! I didn't know you also got The Twelve! I wasn't a fan - loved The Passage but Twelve went too unnecessarily graphic and gross for me. I don't know if I'm up for the 3rd.

Bick has truly created some real people in this series. Idiots making bad decisions and zombies that don't think to shoot guns. Sounds like real life to me!

I just finished this book too. The last 1/4th of this book is intense and I kept having to stop myself from skimming because I was dying to find out what happened. I might need to bite the bullet and spend the $10 on the next book when I get paid...

Haha, I had to go read the blurb for Monsters to make sure.This book ended with one of the biggest cliffhangers I have ever experienced! I don't know how she could survive though. I agree that Tom needs to get his butt back over there and help her. I still like him but I'm losing my patience with him at this point.
I also found myself getting sick of every POV except for Alex and Tom's. There was so much going on, I don't think my brain could process it all properly haha. (hide spoiler)]

I didn't mind all the characters although I was having a hard time keeping track of all the Changed. I have questions that I'm sure will be answered in Monsters.

I feel like I'm cringing a lot lol :) The whole Tom thing isn't that he's stupid...half the time he admits that he shouldn't trust someone, but then he goes along with them anyway, or tries to save someone he's already said he shouldn't trust lol! I think he's just got WAY too big a heart, if that's possible! I think it's a good thing to be like him in "normal" life, but not so good during the apocalypse!

I agree about Tom. He does the best he can with the demons in his head. And I think he trusts his instincts up to the point that he can within the scope of those around him. He's not really a follower, but when leaders are shouting at him to do something other than what his gut tells him, he goes with them - probably one of those chain of command/follow authority military things.

I don't see a way for any of these people to live normal lives in the end. Bick may have to pull a Hunger Games-type ending on us just to let them alone. Jeesh. Poor characters! All of them!
