Well over a month ago now, as I was entering a publication, my work was interrupted by an unwanted screen which showed my eleven or so publications and asked if I was an author interested in becoming a GR author. Fearing my work was lost, I wrote some throwaway comment, then tried to get back to entering the publication. The same screen came up again. This time I noted that I already was a GR author. Again, I tried to go back to what I was entering, finished that and closed GR. The next time I opened GR, however, I noticed that my total of reviewed books had gone done by something like eleven titles. I wrote to GR, noting this, thru the help function. Later, it dawned on me that I had had eleven publications. Looking for them under titles and under my own name I found all were missing from the database. Since then I've sent more messages thru the GR help page, a message to Otis and at least one other message to another staff member cited for being helpful. As noted, over a month has passed and no one has responded to my queries.I note that the author page for Michael Miley has also disappeared--perhaps because we were coeditors of something like nine of the publications which have disappeared.
If someone sees this and knows to whom one ought address such matters, please inform me.

Hi Erik,The publications to which you are referring do not meet Goodreads' standards for published books and were removed from the site. Sorry about that.
If you have any published works that do fall within our guidelines, you would be more than welcome to join the author program.
All of them were journals, two of them academic journals, true. I wonder why I was admitted as an author to begin with then. Have standards changed? Also, seeing that other journals--not to mention pamphlets--are on site (they being basically the same as books containing essays by various authors), I wonder if you're in the process of removing all of them or, if not, whether the ones that disappeared are recoverable. I don't personally care much if I qualify as a GoodReads author, but I would very much like those publications, and my reviews of them, to reappear. Whatever the case, thank you for your prompt response. I was beginning to wonder if Amazon had fired all the staff.

Oh, I just found this on the page which describes what GR librarians do, under the definition of what constitutes a book: "periodicals without ISBNs but substantially similar to books (eg, perfectbound literary magazines)". By that criterion it would appear that the publications I was asking about count as books.--eg

Is the GR text that "periodicals without ISBNs but substantially similar to books" count as books accurate then? If so, all the journals should be restored and I assume they can be restored from your end if someone in authority makes the request. (For me to manually restore them and their reviews would be to repeat a very lengthy process which would not include the original reviews). Also, as you may have noted, Goodreads support never responded to several queries about this matter made over the course of weeks. It took joining this group to finally obtain the responses you've provided.Erik
Hi Erik,Unfortunately, it is not possible to restore deleted items to the site. If you have questions about any specific librarian policies or items that you feel should be considered as books, I would encourage you to start a new thread in the Librarians Group. As this thread has ceased to be productive, I'm going to close it for further posts.

My first book went up here on Goodreads 2-3 weeks ago thanks to a very helpful librarian. When it went live on Amazon and Barnes & Noble a few days later, I clicked the little "Is this you?" button on the book page and requested author status, but I'm wondering if the internet gremlins ate my request. Is this the right place to ask for help?
