My book is focused on the people in the city and how the war affected them but is not a military book. It has lots of antebellum law and medicine and some laughs along the way. And, of course, there is a murder mystery. I know exactly what you are talking about with the soldiers!

I spent over twenty years as a Technical Writer and manager, I am a published songwriter and have written subject matter articles. I am currently working on an unpublished novel The High Water Mark and is currently working on his second The Last Man Standing. I have a pile of notes that will become Tullahoma Mud. Born in Augusta Georgia, a graduate of Georgia Southern University and grew up a military brat. I have had a variety of employment and life experiences. My passion is historical fiction and the research this genre involves. My influences include Hunter S. Thompson, Ernest Hemingway, John Steinbeck, H.L.M. Mencken, Bill Bryson, Jon Meacham and the public library. I love the history of the weird and other mostly unknown facts. I currently lives in Tullahoma, Tennessee and goes by the name Hal, although the sheriff calls me Mr. James H. Bird. So when hear that name I’m usually in big trouble.
In no particular order, I like to read, cook, play music, write, learn and erudite conversation. I have worked shoulder to shoulder with laborers, artisans, thieves, government officials, shadowy people, racers, mechanics, chefs, professionals, happy idiots, and serious neurotics. I have worked as a ranch hand, dirt bike racer, library assistant, mover, truck driver, salesman, analyst, paralegal, manager of the weird, hunter-gatherer, researcher, tech writer, marketer, chronicler of the strange, musician, songwriter, construction worker, elevation engineer, cook, sex critic and keeper of the key. Some of these jobs I made many hard dollars, some nearly cost me my life, some rendered me disabled and others printed an indubitable mark on my troubled mind.
I also suffer from a bad case of tongue in cheek disease.

Now let’s have some fun!
I'll just be giving the short version of my bio tonight but over time I'll share a lot more.
I grew up in suburban Detroit and has since lived in several different states. From Maine to California to Texas to Florida to Tennessee, I’ve been blessed with the opportunity to experience a wide spectrum of American life. I have worked as many different careers as he has places he’s lived. I’ve been an employee, business owner, award winning salesman in two fields, a Politian and now an author. For a short time, I had the privilege to serve as the Township Supervisor/Safety Director in my adopted hometown in Michigan, where I had a successful career running a local refuse company and was elected to the post in the early nineteen nineties.
I married to my sweetheart, Donna and between us we have two daughters and six grandchildren. When I’m not writing, I’m busy exploring the mountains or painting one of a kind artwork or taking spectacular landscape photos which I’ve been known to sell along with other artwork at local flea markets and fairs.
With my foray into being a published author, I’m once again opening a new chapter in my life. I’ve reinvented himself several times as life has presented new challenges and writing is the latest and the greatest reinvention yet. I likes quotes and a couple of my favorites are;
“The most successful people in life are those who are good at plan B or in my case plan C, D, E, F, or G.” and
“Success is the river of life. Perseverance is the boat you sail upon it.”
Of course I wrote them both.
I’m a former business owner, award winning salesman, reformed politician and now
an author!
“The most successful people in life are those who are good at plan B
or in my case plan C, D, E, F, or G.”
My entire life I’ve had to continually reinvent myself time and again. With each new challenge, I’ve had to discover a new strength within myself to help me move on with life despite the circumstances that I’ve faced. It wasn’t always easy, but then, if success was easy everybody would be successful.
In conclusion, I leave a couple more of my quotes for your to ponder.
