Do You Read the Book First, or See the Movie?

Should read the book first !. I have 'The Stand' mini series on DVD which I got as a birthday gift from a friend some 4-5 years ago, but I didn't watch it coz I couldn't find the book.

So I am watching The Strain without reading the book. I know... but I couldn't wait! Should I still attempt the book series or is the show enough?

Sometimes the movies are so different, I still read the book. There is also more detail which really opens up the story.

Is the show any good? I have the first season on DVD but I haven't watched it yet... I have read the book though, and it's pretty awesome, some genuine scares.
