Jon Etheredge (jonetheredge) | 495 comments Today, I began a one-day free download of an older title on Amazon, using Facebook as my principal method of notification. I haven't heard from BookBub, so I checked Amazon to be sure the book showed a price of 0.00.

Curious about how Amazon shows free downloads, I searched for "Free KDP downloads". There were millions of them. Problem was, most of them carried a price tag of 2.99 and up.

So I searched for "0.00 Kindle Books Free". I know it's hard to believe, but there were FORTY of them, and three or four were actually free.

What am I doing wrong?

Amanda M. Lyons (amandamlyons) Knowing that people were downloading a ton of the free books instead of buying the ones with a price tag Amazon made it harder to find them via a general search. The easiest way to find what you want is oddly one of the most obvious. Go to whichever genre most interests you and then put the books in order by price low to high. There's all your free books.

its a really good deal as it is free you just click to buy and are not charged, you need to join amazon first, but that's free also.

My "Freebie-Palooza" is based on free KDP downloads, but I'm doing one book at a time, one day every other week. I tried five consecutive days once but it was a waste.

Today's Freebie-Palooza was posted on two Facebook accounts throughout the last two weeks. My goal is not so much the selling of books, but rather to gain a following.

My new book, "Dream Talker", is scheduled for publication next year, so the Freebie-Palooza is a recruiting tool, designed to swell the ranks of my Legion of Fans until I have an army of anxious buyers devoid of free will, hammering on doors, spreading the word, one by one approaching me on their knees to swear the loyalty oath and kiss my ruby-encrusted ring, while up from behind them builds a chorus of voices chanting in unison, "Jon! Jon! Jon!"

All I need now is a ring.

You only get the 5 out of 90 days free when you enroll your ebooks in KDP Select, which is an additional option you can pick once you publish your ebook with KDP (Kindle Direct Publishing). Don't get them mixed up, as KDP Select requires exclusivity to Amazon for your ebooks.
