I wish JG wrote books that captured my emotions as they are so beautifully written and plotted. But I just don't care about his characters and find them soulless and ultimately uninteresting. As I wrote in my review, where I tried to continue reading it was probably not the best place (urgent care while my mom was having a stroke) but even so, I was still having trouble wanting to finish this book. I just wasn't invested enough to care.

This book started off slowly and I had a hard time getting interested but it picked up about 1/3 of the way through. I think it was typical Grisham -- most of the plot revolves around legal procedure and the movement of money. Although he down plays it in the end, he does have some statements to make about American prisons, and the impact of mandatory sentencing guidelines and federal racketeering laws on the increasing numbers of non-violent offenders serving lengthy terms.

I thought I'd give this book a try. Haven't read anything by this author in awhile. I thought it was not one of his best, but it kept my interest. Characters were not exciting it just flowed. So easy reading and a look into the federal government and federal racketeering laws. I liked his earlier books much better.
