ok, i looked at the knock website and couldn't figure out how to purchase it. Then I checked Eagle Harbor's site, Powell's and Elliot Bay's site and couldn't get it there. Am I a moron?

oh i see what i previously did not Margaret. You need to print out a form and mail it to get just a single issue.

I will continue on my quest to purchase it without sending a check!

Thanks for reposting the link Margaret.

message 7: by [deleted user] (new)

No You should be able to purchase on thier website. but it keeps sending you around and around. must be a glich.

message 8: by [deleted user] (new)

I guess I'll be sending out a check too.

message 9: by Pavel (new)

Pavel Kravchenko (pavelk) | 96 comments They used to have a list of stores that sold it, but now it just says hundreds of stores across the country. My local BN doesn't have it.

. . . ubiquity is distributing it mostly through indie bookstores . . . their working on direct internet sales, but the university is dragging their feet . . . hopefully they'll have it set up soon . . .

i've got three copies i'm willing to sell to the highest bidder(s).

bidding starts at $100 per.

$200 nets you an autographed copy. autographed by my neighbor. he's kind of a dick, but he has nice handwriting.

So much for "uneasy in a position of power".

That was a bitch to print.

message 16: by Jonathan, the skipper (new)

Jonathan | 609 comments Mod
okay, so by the end of next week, a complete list of bookstores should be available at the website, as well as the ability to make direct online sales . . .

message 17: by [deleted user] (new)

Thanks JE. I'll wait a week. This is really exciting.

I had Dan's problem and thought I was going crazy!! I'll wait for the online sales option, unless I miraculously find it at Borders!

Jono - what's the status of buying this direct online?

message 22: by Jonathan, the skipper (new)

Jonathan | 609 comments Mod
. . . the university is still dragging their feet on the online thing . . .on the upside, here's a list of bookstores where knock is now available:

http://www.knockmagazine.com/subscrib...

message 23: by Matt, e-monk (new)

Matt Comito | 386 comments Mod
it's not available in Washington state?

message 24: by Jonathan, the skipper (new)

Jonathan | 609 comments Mod
. . . i saw it at eagle harbor and elliot bay, so it must be available . . . what you've gotta' realize is that students are doing most of the administrative work, so getting accurate information is tough . . . my model called for a launch with immediate online sales and a brick-and-mortar rollout . . . but alas, my hands are tied at every juncture . . .

message 27: by [deleted user] (new)

I'm just sending a check. Should I get two? Does Brian want one? I'll bring it to the Dork.

message 28: by Brian, just a child's imagination (new)

Brian (banoo) | 346 comments Mod
Yes Margaret. I do want one. Hope I caught you before you sent your check. I'll bring real money too. Thanks for thinking about us Pluonians.

message 29: by [deleted user] (new)

OK My new apartment is directly across from the Post Office. So I will send it tomorrow, Monday. Anyone else let me know by Monday morning.

Okay, so I'm behind... but finally picked up this fine publication. And this, my friends, is a value! Great stories and two -- count 'em TWO interviews. (I'd be further along but Othmer's story left me a bit gut-punched and staring off into space at the coffeeshop.) Enjoyed Ben's stories at the back of the book then realized I was consuming this thing like a peanut butter sandwich nibbling around the outer edges and working my way in.

message 31: by Neil (new)

Neil McCrea | 204 comments Nertz . . . I still don't even have my comp copies.

message 32: by Hugh, aka Hugh the Moderator (new)

Hugh | 271 comments Mod
Enjoyed the story, Neil. And even though JE proclaims no theme connects the stories in this magazine -- I definitely noticed that "penises" and "lollipops" play significant roles in several stories.

Wow. I am exercising some amazing restraint in the area of totally inappropriate genitalia humor right now.

Christopher Swann (christopherswann) | 189 comments Mod
I'm so getting this. And not just so I can imagine Shel's totally inappropriate genitalia humor as I'm reading it, although I have to admit that isn't a detraction.

. . . sorry you haven't got your copies yet neil . . . i've alerted the "staff" which means i'll probably have to alert them three or four more times, but you'll get them . . .

message 36: by [deleted user] (new)

I mailed a check for 2 on Monday.

me neither but they didnt have my address originally and I had to send it to them - it's been like 2 weeks now which given your description of goings on doesnt seem excessive

Take it easy on the little university press... it's hard being in publishing these days... doing more with less and all that.

As for the online ordering - JE, maybe you can give them a little nudge - they can set up a Yahoo! store, if I'm not mistaken those still exist, or ask them to use Paypal... That way they don't have to go through the pain and anguish of building out any functionality in their site. The platforms are out there. They just need to set up their account... and they can use Paypal for all of their stuff.

message 43: by Jonathan, the skipper (new)

Jonathan | 609 comments Mod
. . . the issue with the online stuff isn't platform, rather it has something to do with the university having to run all sales or some such . . .

message 44: by [deleted user] (new)

"Where'd that scalper go?"

I'll get on the phone with them and straighten it all out. ;-) I kid, I kid. These days I am doing all kinds of pro bono web consulting, it fits with my killer business model of giving away my hard-won knowledge for free.

I still say Paypal. It works almost exactly like online credit card processing for merchants and the transactions go straight to their bank account; if I'm not mistaken they can ask for whatever info they want from their customers at the front end of the transaction and that, too, will be info made available to them. But don't quote me on that.

message 46: by Neil (new)

Neil McCrea | 204 comments JE--looks like your nudge worked. They reconfirmed my address and shipped them out right away. I've just received my copies. Boy oh boy am I humbled by the company I'm keeping.

Hugh -- Thanks! The story was a bit experimental for me, I wanted to see if I could write an engaging piece in a passive voice. I think I succeeded.
