Discuss chapter five

I've been terrible about coming on here! But I have been reading (mainly while subbing) and I've been taking notes as I read.

So the first thing I have written down is about Hagrid, and maybe this comment should have been saved until Chamber of Secrets, but I thought about it here when he tells Harry about how he can't do magic because he was expelled from Hogwarts.

I'm wondering why, when it becomes clear to Harry and I have to assume Dumbledore as well that Hagrid wasn't at fault for the monster that killed Moaning Mrytle he wasn't allowed to use magic again.

I guess you could say that the expulsion could still be valid because he brought a acromantula to the school.

But then why couldn't he go to a different school for magic? When muggle students are expelled from a school it doesn't me they can never learn anything for an educational institution again.

Why couldn't Hagrid have continued his magical education after being expelled from Hogwarts? Or at the very least, as an adult after the second war could he continue his magical education then? Or do you lose your magical ability if it is left untrained for so long?

Caitlin Pellegrino | 7 comments Maybe thats why Dumbledore keeps Hagrid on his team. Dumbledore knows deep down what happened and (probably) knows that Hagrid does in fact use magic. When Hagrid is under Dumbledore's watch maybe he won't do anything too stupid with magic. It can be kept under some control...but in the same way, Hagrid isn't left out in the dust.

Maybe there is some law in the ministry against going to different schools for magic. Or maybe Hagrid's parents couldn't afford to send him somewhere else.
