(view spoiler)[That was great and intense. Pretty much all I remembered from this series was that Karou, and her blue hair, created monsters in an epic battle against angels. So glad I forgot many of the minor details, so much of it felt brand new and exciting. Wonder why she didn’t tell Akita the truth about who the Wolf really is. He killed his leader father and she killed the Chimera leader so why are they going separate ways.? Don’t these two know fate is only going to bring them back together again. Seriously sad about Brimstone truly being gone as well as Akita and his sister losing their brother. (hide spoiler)]

Crystal...tease! Up to ch21 and I’m feeling a bit out of this - my own fault for trying to read other stuff alongside I think. It feels strange that he’s talking of atonement, others are looking for an alternative and yet everything seems to be pointing towards more fighting.

Up to Chapter 20

(view spoiler)[ I'm really liking this so far, I was a fan of the romance in the first one, but this is so much better. I can't wait until Aliva realizes that Karou is behind the chimaera's resurgence. The dynamic with Thiago is weird, but thatll get explored more later. I like how much darker this one is getting. (view spoiler)[ Noooooo, I liked Rath and Ziri. Why'd they have to die?? They were just trying to save people. I'm really not a fan of Thiago. He should've sent his warriors to save the refugees, even if it cost him. They are the people he's fighting to protect. I really like Sveva's chapters, and I like not having the romantic element in this one.

I'm worried about Zuzana. Clearly Thiago doesn't care about innocent lives, so who knows what he'll do to her. I do admire her for going to such lengths for Karou though. (hide spoiler)]

(view spoiler)[ I really love Zuzana. It's so neat to read how she just fell right into the Chimaera. It really goes to show that they do have a human side, and that they would do well in peace. Thiago better not arrange to."lose" them, I feel like some of the Chimaera would riot. It's cool to see the Shadows that Live, who are legends, talking and laughing with Zuzana. I feel like her friends may be the ones to help Karou start this rebellion. (hide spoiler)]

(view spoiler)[ I'm so happy she killed Thiago, I just wish she could've taken her time and really made him suffer. I hated him with a passion. I do admit, I was hoping he might get a redemption at the beginning, but even death is too good for him. He better not have hurt Issa. I'm really hoping the shadows and Amzallag get resurrected, I really like them. I can't wait for Karou to bring back the souls in the cathedral, and to see when they are reunited with their families. The scene where we learned that was so touching, and really made us understand the sacrifices that have been made.

I don't really want Akiva and Karou together again, I'm enjoying the break from their romance. It just seemed rushed, and I'm loving getting to see them alone. Akiva's bond with Hazel and Liraz is the best. I want Zuzana back! (hide spoiler)]

(view spoiler)[ Hazael's death broke me. I didn't even know I was that attached to him and Liraz until I was almost in tears watching her beg Karou to resurrect him. I thought the first book was great, until I read this one. this one was absolutely amazing, and it didn't have the romance to drag it down. I'm interested to see what happens when the two armies are actually expected to fight on a battlefield together, and how Karou will go about building bodies now that there is no pressure from Thiago to make them beastly. I cant wait to read the next book! (hide spoiler)]

(view spoiler)[ Yah, I wish she would've told Akiva that Thiago is actually the Kirin he saved, it might've lessened the enemity between the two armies simply by changing the way the leaders treated each other. Akiva deserves to know, considering that he sacrificed so much when she was Madrigal to keep her from Thiago, so seeing her with him is just a slap in the face. (hide spoiler)]

Up to ch32. Those of you who’ve streaked ahead must be seeing something I’m missing. This feels really slow at the moment, and the switching perspectives feels like a delaying tactic.

That's wierd, I felt like this one moved pretty fast compared to the first one, and I enjoyed having several perspectives, although Svevas were unnecessary

Up to ch37. There is something just not quite working for me. Karou seems like a shadow of her former self, and it all feels disjointed.

Finished. Review on home page. The first third was a slog and really almost gave up. It improved, and there were moments that had me open-mouthed. Can’t say I enjoyed this, but it picked up and did make me feel like part three would be worth reading.
